Wow! First place was seperated by 2 seconds!!!!!
That's just a stumble on the run up the beach!!!
I see a few familiar names in the lists. I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics of this one.

dont rub it in daffy...

It was a great race. Thanks to all the guys and gals involved in organising it, and a big thanks to all the competitors.

Peter was right there for most of the race, and he passed me on the 4th leg after I did a slow gybe. I caught him again at the end of the leg. He gybed early, and I thought he was not going to make the marker boat in one go. He went upwind of the boat, found a nice steep swell, surfed it clew first for a considerable distance and hooked in alongside me for the last run out to the last mark. I got there first, but was struggling to find a ramp to gybe on and stay planing- there was very little wind. I shot wide in desperation, and peter hooked a nice ramp to cruise past on the inside. I was left floundering and pumping to try to get planing again... he was long gone. But I put the pedal down in a last ditch attempt to catch him. His landing wasnt too flash but was good enough to hold me off on the beach.

It was one of the best races I've done in terms of being pushed all the way to the end. Feeling a bit sore still! Congrats Peter.

NEXT YEAR...

yep. with a 33cm weed fin I forged from an old torqay pointer last week. Gotta love the $99 GMC sander... There wasnt much weed on the run.

Well done Chris,

i had you locked for the win -

If there was an overall award for best all round sailor on the planet right now Pete would have to be the man to take it -an awesome wavesailor who can do 2 360s in a row at hookipa (on the same wave) and then bust out double forwards (on both tacks) - and also in the top echelon of racers

it sounds like his surfing talent (and some luck) got his nose over the line

great finish chris - your turbo run onto the beach almost got you back up 1 place.

Chris knows this already - i for one would like to Chris competing in PWA - it would be great to have an aussie up there kicking arse again - and i am sure Chris would have alot of success. And also change the way people think about big sailors vs racing success.

Sometimes a narrow defeat like this can make you even hungrier. It was an awesome duel. Thanks for an awesome show!

Yes Chris, I watched you both cross the line, it was real close. Had a few chats and drinks with Peter over the 4 days, you couldn't have been beaten by a Nicer Guy who is a Awesome wave sailor and racer.

Matt didn't do to bad himself.

Well done to all that finished.

Not to mention the dedication of the wave guys getting out there in minimal wind and waves to battle it out..

Congtrats to Jaeger for the waves..

My thoughts exactly Matt; Chris clearly has the speed to match it with the big guys - Albeau, Dunkerbeck etc. and it would be awesome to see him doing Australia proud on the PWA tour!

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I'm actually stoked with having such a good race.

Peter is a top bloke. I've known him for a few years and have huge respect for his allround talent. We've had some fun battles on the speed tour the past few seasons- yes, he's good at that too!

This year's LOC seemed to have the best atmosphere in years. Loads of supporters and spectators at the finish, and there were a load of smiles at the party. Great atmosphere. So thanks again all the guys that made this great event a truly memorable one.

If you didnt go this year, make sure you check it out next year for its 25th birthday.

Chris,
Out of interest did you wear a GPS for the L2L? I didn't see a GTC track result for the race. Would love to know exactly how fast you went out in the open ocean.
Cheers,
Brian

Nah Brian, I thought about it but then decided I would rather not have it annoying me on the arm. I usually hit 33/34 in the ocean when its rough. Great fun. I reckon I would have been lucky to peak at 30 in the race- not much wind and quite underpowered on the downwind legs.

hey slowly, well done again and somewhat comforting to know even you were underpowered ! I can console myself that it really was light out the back (and not just my imagination) if you weren't planing on much bigger kit than I was on.

is there footage of the finish Matt that we can view at all ??
