I am a surfer and a kitesurfer - while there is definately an increase in surfers taking up kiting in the surf I thought it might be more -

So i am interested what surfers who dont kite think about kitesurfing in the waves

Thanks

Kite surfing looks sweet in the surf....kinda looks like lame ballet on flat water....good hang time though

You should probably ask here...

forum.realsurf.com/forums/

but I would be weary, they consider SUP riders as good target practice (they really loathe them), so it may not be a favorabile outcome.

my opinion is that it doesnt bother me, as long as we both stay out of eachothers way

Never gave it a lot of thought. I dont think the two paths cross often. Kite surfing looks great. It gives another option to enjoy the beach when the winds up. I wonder whether windsurfing is more like surfing than kite boarding.

ive sat and watched em when ive being getting changed after a onshore surf and im pretty impressed cause most of the guys were lining themselves up for reos and massive hacks instead of the normal triple wizzy flip thing on the way out.(added onus was they stayed out of the lineup where everyone was surfing).
definitely got my respect over wind joogies and stand up kayakers.

I'm keen to try it.

My good mate, we taught ourselves to surf together, started extreme wave jumping and rarely to never surfed. Then kiting came along, and he's never been back on the wind surfer again ( I think). Still surfs when there's no wind, but BIG though.

right on brother !

I do both, and to be honest there's no way I'd be surfing when it's 20kts onshore anyway so they're complimentary sports for me, but I HATE it when kiters go out and mix it up with the paddle surfers.

IMHO it should be like the tow surfers code of conduct, if there are paddle surfers in the water either paddle with them or pack up the skis / kites and go home.

I was trying to score a few waves up at Lanno a couple of weeks ago.
Conditions were the absolute pits - no waves, but I watched a kite surfer havig a lot of fun.
The only drawback for me with kite surfing, is all that friggin' aparatus. Harnesses. air pumps, ropes, and I've seen a couple of guys just about end up over at South Africa as they got hoisted to where they really didn't want to go.
The other thing is, I kinda view it the same way as I do the " tow in " concept.
ie: For me it 'aint really the real deal.
Then again. who's for me to say ....maybe I should try it.
Anyone got a spare kite, air pump, harness, ropes, belts, weight, kite board, etc ?
