They are coming next year and they will be fitted to sups, long, short or even bodyboards. How are you going to react if you get snaked off a wave by one? With all the cashed up crew in the west I think we will see a few in the water in some already congested metro spots. Sups can already take whatever waves they want most of the time, can you imagine one with an engine as well?

Do they travel faster than 10 knots on or off a wave?

If so, they must abide by the PWC handbook you would think?

Give-way ( non-powered vessels)
Give way to sailing vessels, canoes and other passive craft.

Distance off
A PWC towing a person or travelling at 10 knots or more must
remain:
- 60 metres from any person in the water (including a surfer or
boogie boarder), sailing vessel or passive craft

I hope these rules are applied to them, surfing is competitive enough as it is in the lineup.

dunno mate it looks like they go pretty fast from the videos available. It will take a snapped leg rope and or out of control board motoring into someones head before anything is enforced.

I think anyone riding those boards will be quickly regulated by normal surfers. Look at what happened with SUP's at Burleigh - people on SUP's started getting bashed by the locals because they would just paddle past the lineup and straight into another set. You don't see many SUP's on decent days at Burleigh anymore.

Just gives the aqua bogan another tool apart from their jetski to hoon around in the line up! Bit of a novelty I reckon.

For your purpose these would be perfect, I would even help you fit it to the board if you like

Will do but seriously are they selling the 'jets' to you and you fit them to your exsisting board? ...or do you have to purchase a wavejet' board that already is fitted the 'jets'? ...I ask as I thought you could not purchase 'jets' by themselves -with on one of their boards...... just curious.

EDIT: btw the thought of a wavejet SUP is a joke, pathetic

I think you can do both from what I have read, tbh it would be better to fit one to an existing board that you like.
Ive seen a few vids of boards with these fitted, the boards looked like standard SUPs and LBs in tufflite.

The WaveJet pod system may be purchased with a WaveJet-ready board, or on its own to fit into a WaveJet-ready or retro-fitted board. The system comes with one rechargeable pod containing dual lithium ion batteries, a pod carrying case for easy mobility, a pod charger and a Seatooth® wrist controller.

Ta mate, I agree about putting one on your own board -esp considering how much your paying for the system......

These units are three inches thick so the donor board is going to have to be minimum three inches thick or its going to stick up out of the deck.
That may not be a massive problem but its one you will have to consider.
