Im no expert on that spot, but I imagine you would need a thumping groundswell and once a year banks for it to be like that. So no, not last saturday

Def not last Saturday (as I had to travel to find a wave) and yes, rare day to be like that - maybe once or twice a year - and then only for 2-3 days then gone.

Thats just not cricket. When I lived down in Manly some of the after work crowd from the board riders clubs there (most are good blokes but a few of them are selfish pr*ks) used to think it was both their right and funny to drop in on everyone and thinking they owned the place. I am not the violent type but several times I was tempted and then realised that its just not worth it. I used to instead just drop back in on them and straighten out before heading in. I used to smile as I did it. It used to annoy them but once I pointed out that it was just the same as what they were doing they would paddle off to another peak. I do not miss those days at all. Although there are few beachies that like the NE swell like Manly.

I remember trigg point as a great place, when I was a kid 20years ago. When I learnt to surf I learnt to stay away! Havent surfed trigg for >15years...never been that desperate... I'm happy leaving it to the crowds, wish more people would surf it

I have more fond memories of Trigg Point than negative ones, a massive part of my childhood and growing up. Loved the place.

Hey I havent surfed the place for 15 years but am wondering if the blue hole is still there? I remember it was an expressway to get out the back of the break, particularly on largish days, you hardly had to paddle. Every now and then a tourist or a fisho would fall in and drown as it would suck them under the reef ledge only to let them out a few days later all bloated into the line up. Remember seeing one guy who has been missing for three days and he popped up. A couple of surfers dragged in him into the beach, wasnt a pretty picture. I guess those pesky groins up north have probably stuffed things up but just wondering?

No, after the Nuns drowned there they blew it up
You can still get out that way but the hole is gone.

Although I don't surf The Point too often any more, I do tend to keep an eye on it... and the 'infamous' blue-hole rip has not worked for a good few years. It was once so reliable that when a comp was on the surfers who got one into shore used to run across and use the rip to get back into the line-up... Had you not mentioned it I would have not thought about it - that's how long it's been since I have seen it working.

In fact, of late, the peak for 'The Point' has moved south and is more often than not directly in front of the Cafe.

Yep, blue hole is there, wont go unless the reef goes (which means never). Saw an African family try to swim in that area last year. I guess it looked good to them as it was seemingly nice, calm water. Far from, in the 'calm' side of things anyway. Two of the older ladies went it, got a bit stuck and ended up screaming for help after a few minutes. Some of the guys I recognise as the "locals" went to rescue her in their shortys. The lifeguards rushed over and spat the dummy at the other elders after resuscitating the victims. Pretty heavy situation. It's more Hillarys that's stuffed it up. I thought up the idea of dredging sand (just a bit) in a southerly direction for Trigg. works for the superbank, and will probably help all the beaches further south a bit too.

The hole is there but its nothing like it used to be, the council blew up the overhanging bit that made it dangerous.

even if that dangerous bit might have been blown up, its obviously still a serious risk for those lacking confidence in the water.

mazdon - i honestly have no idea because dredging from anywhere further north would probably have consequence on beachies that are may already be struggling with a lack of sand. but from simple observations of the superbank, a little extra sand could go a long way to making perths surfers a lot more satisfied, barreled and maneuver savvy. it would also lessen the strain put on point packed year in year out. iv seen enough of people walking in saddened after boards have collided and fins ripped out, etc.

i think its somewhat realistic to suggest dredging a section of the crossing between perth and rotto. if there really is that much close to shore sand moving action happening north-south that it has such a drastic effect on the northern beachies since the building of hillaries, there shouldnt be much a problem grabbing some sand from a couple of ks offshore and putting it somewhere lots of people will really appreciate it. just my thoughts, but i never really thought about pushing them into the public spotlight (ie gov'n) coz im not sure how much support itd have. i know many people would thinks its a waste of tax payer money.

The problem with Perths beachies is too much sand not not enough. "Dune reclamation" of areas that were never dunes is one of the main problems, like that whole stretch along Scarborough. The waterline at Scabs used to move a 100m or so from summer to winter, doesn't happen anymore.
That and a distinct lack of howling NW blows lasting for three or more days like we used to get.
Look at last year, a couple of good fronts from the north and places like Meets, Mullaz and Bennions that haven't worked properly in donkeys start to turn on.
