Typical Perth crew
You should see when they hit the Sth West, Bali etc
Same attitude and carry on
Still in a pack
Don't miss them on the east coast

I learnt to surf at Trigg Point 30yrs ago - and it was my go-to wave for over 20yrs. You did your time and got a place in the pecking order and started to know the regulars and it was just a matter of taking turns...

Now there's no etiquette or consideration whatsoever - I generally can't be f'd with the place anymore unless it's mid week outside of Summer - and even then if it's on word gets out and the crew are all over it.

the beauty of trigg is that once the all the young-uns are back at school, that seems to be a rough guideline for when recovers again. not saying it becomes vastly better than it is now, but it makes for slightly longer rides. yay for midday school term surfing.

its just funny to see everyone scrambling for the crumbly crap at the back of the reef at the moment. actually its kinda sad. but you just have to laugh. the more experienced guys make it look like a piece of cake to ride, but for the rest of the crowd its kind of like....fail.

Have never actually surfed the reefie up there but mainly the breaks close by. There's a reason I love going down south and thats because you get away from all this. From a guy who actually tries to follow surf etiquette, you do wonder is there any point when longboarders and the likes continue to charge down with no thought for others. Furthermore are the SUP'ers whom narrowly miss me and all I get is abuse even if I'm the 1 with right of way or have paddled for the wave much earlier than them.

Much better down south when you can actually enjoy your surf. People actually follow the rules and much friendlier bunch. Heck I plan to move down there hopefully one day .

The weird thing about Perth (Trigg) surfers to me it seems, is that from my years of observation, you either have to be a competent surfer and generally manoeuvre on the wave on average better than most of the crew in the water at the time or know the guys that have such skill to gain any respect during a session (i.e. avoid verbal abuse). Seems there's never initial respect in the water.

Down South I reckon a lot of people are have their attention more towards surviving mother nature rather than surviving each other. And sometimes it's for good reason too. *big waves* No point in having a go at someone if there's a possibility you may require their assistance after a nasty reef wipeout later on.

There are a handful of longboarders at Trigg Point who have earned their spot. The local rippers all acknowledge them and they take pretty much whatever they want. That's when it's small to medium. The thing I don't like about Trigg Point is the group tactics of locals. Because it's often an A-frame you'll get a couple of guys who'll split the peak and it's very difficult to get between them to claim one of the waves. As a result I rarely surf there.

as a longboarder I usually let the first couple in the set go to the shorties, let a few go, don't think I could do trigg. also don't mind when I hear one of the young guns (anyone under 30) curse me when I snavel a peak.

A few men in grey suits might sort the pack out a bit. I think to enjoy the point you have to enjoy the specticle and theatre of it. Including the agro goons kooks getting sucked over the falls and the dead set locals who fear the thought of not being part of the in crowd. Good luck and happy hunting or laughing.

You're right Mac but thing is, it's pretty easy knowing whom the better surfers are and give them respect they deserve like you say Legion. Yet I'm more talking about the average surfers whom are 'wave hogs'.

I'll openly admit I'm not the best surfer but there will be waves I'll go for and know I'll catch but pull out because theres a Mal or SUP'er charging by next to me even if I have right of way just to save my hide! Has happened to me a few times in the past so I know.

Hopefully those wave machines get built ASAP and take the crowds with them

I actually reckon there has just been a lot if stoke at the point the last week and not so much agro. The better surfers are always going to get tye best waves, its same the world over. People need to get over it. Respect is earned by doing your time in the line up not bitching on some forum and only surfing on the best days.

The vibe and the bank at the point at the present reminds me of my teenage years in the mid 80's. Not getting a lot of waves but luvin' the stoke.

Tut tut tut Jeremy, is it all worth the bother ? Instead of sitting there
Chastising the crowd of ie children / locals or people that are
Unable to travel, but still have the stoke enough to deal with the crowds,
Just to get that saltwater rush , leave them be and make your way elsewhere
Surfing anyone?? Yes please

Trigg is a crap wave generally but its a bit of a swell magnet and there is some sort of bank there on any given day. I havnt surfed Trigg Point for years and thats not going to change in a hurry.
Snapper Rocks has got to be the worst I have ever seen for crowds and agro, makes Trigg look like kiddies corner

I spent the first 30 years of my life surfing Trigg Point and now live on the Goldy and agree with Doggie that Snapper is waaaay worse...........Funny thing is though as compared to Perth where there a few other wave options unless you travel there are heaps of other options on the Goldy. I find little beachies with only a few out, sure its not as epic a wave as Snapper but still fun and you are at least guaranteed to get a few waves and no aggro.
