I am interested in going to the Maldives in June.I know there is plenty of good surf . I am like most traveling surfers and would like to do it as cheap as possible and stay as long as i can .Is this possible?
All the info that i am getting from the net indicates that this is a beautiful place but very expensive.I would prefer to be land based and do day boat trips .
What would happen if you just turned up at the main island ? is there any home stays? or back packers? or would I be forced into a 5 star resort and be broke in a couple of days.
Hope some one can help me.

haven't been there myself yet, but in researching the place I found that it is one of the MOST expensive places to visit and NOT a good idea to turn up without bookings. Definately not a "backpakers" destination.

Surf Travel Company and World Surfaris seem to have some "last minute" specials from time to time tho.
