Yeah I agree with the helmet thing...
I admit that despite a couple of previous serious cycling accidents I had gotten into the habit of not wearing a helmet if just going along the coast or around the suburb...
One morning I decided to do the early around the suburb - wasn't properly awake, but for some reason grabbed the helmet. Stacked it badly at about 30kph and went over the handle bars - ended up with two broken ribs and broke my L hand in 3 places. Scary thing was that the helmet was cracked through in 3-4 places and that was from secondary impact... that snapped my sunnies across my nose - but not a mark or bump on my head.
I always wear my bike helmet now
