After a couple of kids skateboards (11 and 9 year old girls) for xmass presents looking at either a penny (plastic deck) or drifter cruiser (26"), any recomendations?

Both the girls are riding on ripstixs really well, looking for something to cruise the local northern coastal walkways and skate to school on. The Pennys seem pretty popular around the place, but the drifters look like a better longer term option.

cheers

do not buy your kids a penny sk8r just buy them a street deck and they will love it,even at their age, maybe no tricks yet but plenty good for the groms to cruise on and then you got something to play with when they are off to bed check boardshop australia and they will sort you out

Buy them a helmet as well. The hospital give you hell when you bring a kid in with a head injury from skateboarding. [}:)] Trust me..

they all have helmets... getting them to wear thems another story..

Ended up buying two 26" drifters cruisers for the groms, look out for us on the trigg coastal walkways over xmass break...

I wear one as well and find that makes all the difference. I struggled to get a helmet to fit such a big head though

Yeah I agree with the helmet thing...

I admit that despite a couple of previous serious cycling accidents I had gotten into the habit of not wearing a helmet if just going along the coast or around the suburb...

One morning I decided to do the early around the suburb - wasn't properly awake, but for some reason grabbed the helmet. Stacked it badly at about 30kph and went over the handle bars - ended up with two broken ribs and broke my L hand in 3 places. Scary thing was that the helmet was cracked through in 3-4 places and that was from secondary impact... that snapped my sunnies across my nose - but not a mark or bump on my head.

I always wear my bike helmet now
