I am in the market for a new board. Currently have a webber afterburner tufflite and
like it but its time to replace it. I am looking at the flexfire but have heard firewires delaminate,
Has this happened to anyone or is it just a myth? (know it happens in Kiting but this will be a pure surfboard).

Ive had a flexfire 6'2 round tail for over a year. Best board ive had in years.
Surf most days and its still in great condition, only a few small pressure dings.
My other standard glass boards never lasted a year in good condition.
A bit more expensive but worth it i think.
I havn't heard much from other surfers about de lam issues and most love the boards.
I wont go back to the old glass boards.
Check out the firewire website and also e bay sometimes have a few.

Most problems come from guys leaving in their cars and cooking them in the heat, had mine over two years really happy and no problems.

I know from the original batch some of them de-lamed but havnt seen one do for a while now.
I know a guy that used to work at star surf in Perth, he had one and FW replaced it straight away. Must of been a materials problem or manufacturing issue.
Good reports from guys that I know that have them..

I have just been reading about these carbon fiber Aviso (not sure on Spelling) boards. Sound like they are similar in construction to to the firewires except maybe tougher. Anyone got first hand experience with these boards?

They are hollow.

Yep, they are hollow made from woven carbon fiber and epoxy resin. Very light and extremely strong. Looks like they have some good green cred too based on manufacturing process and durability of the finished board.

1000$ US plus a fair wack for Shipping.

Compleatly different aviso's are hollow carbon sandwich laminated in female moulds the firewire are eps core with balsa or a carbon rod parabolic stringer overlaminated with standard glass.

I've got a couple friends that ride the firewires both of whom are tough on there gear and they're holding great and they love surfing them.

One of our better surfers in our boardriders has had one for over a year and loves it, he was going through a PU board every 2-3 months.

What size dom have you got and do you use it as a thruster or a quad?

Marty,my dominator is 5'10" and I'm a quad tragic. The 3 boards I ride regularly are all set up as quads but can be riden as thrusters.I'm 70kgs and the 5'10" is perfect, very easy to paddle, fast and turns incredibly well.

Can confirm that this rumour is completely false. Taj no doubt still tests other boards as all pro's do but he unequivocally rides Firewire in contests and the majority of the time. This rumour has also been circulating for about 3 years. It's an urban myth.

Something for you to think about, who do you think may have an interest in propagating such a rumour?

....Maybe Firewire, Isn't any publicity is good publicity!

It was just something I heard in the surf last week and found very interesting. I mean, even if he was on a glass board that was painted to look like a firewire, and won the title, 99% of people in the world would be none the wiser. As long as it looked like a firewire sales would be UP

IIRC when this rumour first came out the guy who was handbuilding his boards dispelled it. He's still active on the internet, although he doesn't work for Firewire anymore. Easy to ask him, and he's a straightforward guy.

I am not sure about comps but I was out surfing a supers about 3months ago when Taj was free surfing. He broke his board and it was definately a firewire. One of the biggest crunch noises I ever heard. I guess that what hapens when u land in the flats after getting 6 ft of air. He shreds on all craft just check out fair bits he gets barreled on a door!!!
