Mate I'm 32 and I ride a 6'6 by 21 1/2" x 2 3/8" single to double concave rounded pin for the 0-4ft days and 7'0 x 21 1/2 x 2 3/8" single to double rtounded square for the 6 - 10 ft days....ones a Full Circle from Phillip Island (forgot the shapers name) and the other in by Ringa of Ilsand surfboards....both are sweet...have also got good reports from mates on Mark Phipps Kong Model boards

One thought is to try going up in thickness - adds more bouyance per cm³ over the length of the board than just adding length

Than again I'm 100kg and don't have anything under 6'10" in the rack - too much hassle

Nah mate...I prefer adding width instead of thickness..I used to ride 18 1/2"'s by 2 3/4".....width is heaps better than thickness you get a better rail shap IMO without rolling the deck out too much...Derek Hynd wrote a fantatstic article about this sort of stuff in Surfer about ten years ago...bottom contours on wider boards are super important as well....

if you only 70kg getting a thicker longer wider board will be hard to duck dive
harder to set the rail in
do some swimming get your fittness up

tux is on the money, wider before thicker everytime...

18" is a way narrow board, you could go out to easily 19-1/2" without destroying plane shape and still keep your percieved performance, i reckon you'll blow out at how stable and forgiving it would become and would be that much easier to paddle, that all thoughts you've been having about giving up on real surfing and buying a mal would instantly evaporate.

as DL says a fish would probably be even better (or you could really hate your self and go epoxy, those things paddle better to comparable poly in size)

Hey surfsky if you havent compromised on performance in the past i wouldn't start now. maybe try 2 5/8s thick keep under 19 inches wide and push it out to 6foot 3 inches try a slightly wider square or swallow. Paddle power comes from the shoulders and core yoga good food.

Spray it red It'll go faster.

I found a guy on the Northern Beaches that does Custom EPS/epoxy boards - died and went to heaven
