Had nine nights in Bali staying at Ramada resort in Tuban (4star - veery flash - Kuta and airport left reefs straight out the front of hotel. Just under $1400 for nine nights, airfares, transfers and breakfast every day - as much as you can eat and awesome food ,everything you can think of.

Would get it even cheaper now as Aussie dollar nice and high.

Worth a look

where did you get this deal.
and could you get there and then decide to go to sumbawa and those other areas.
or would you have to organise that before you left...

If you are on the east coast those jetstar sydney -Honolulu tickets have been cheap $750 return, a week at the backpackers and surf pipeline to vland everyday.

I originally was on the internet for weeks on all the usuals (flight centre etc), looking and comparing flights, accomadation, board lengths on flights, maximum boards etc etc etc. In the end I took a punt on my local travel agent, told her what i wanted, rough area I wanted to stay and for how long. My only preference was to fly Garuda as they have good luggage weight (more boards) and plenty of direct flights.

Met a guy in Bali who went via I think Malaysia Airlines and was a 23 hr trip with two flight changes - stuff that. Went from Sydney to Denpasar airport (its actually closer to Kuta than Denpasar) in 6 hours.

You can organise boat trips whilst there over to Lakeys etc from there. I havent done it myself. It gets pretty exxy though I think. They advertise trips on Baliwaves.com. Good site run by Aus living over there. Have a look at it for trips. May is good time as swell is up and off shore winds on East Coast. Starts getting real busy June July.

Go speak to your travel agent. Be careful about luggage restrictions with airlines like Jetstar. Also their flights appear cheaper but you pay for everything on board, drinks food etc. Meal and drinks free on Garuda. And no they dont all fall out of the sky.

Cant help you with the boat prices to Lakeys. Need to source that one out. The old Garuda planes do shake but they also have small cans of bintang to get you in the mood.

I was there in May last year. Crowds were not too bad. Reefs at Kuta were plretty hectic though. Normally thirty to forty on Airport left and Kuta reef but I think it gets busier in June/July. Ulu is massive given the amount of individual breaks so it never was very crowded really.

I think it all depends on what you'r used to. If you surf crowded beachs in Aus it wont worry you. I bitched about crowds at Kuta reef and some guys from Sydney laughed at me.

I forgot to mention that the $1400 approx was twin share accom. There is another post re Bali that I posted on with some other info.

Its definitely worth the trip - thats why so many go and keep going back. DEFINITELY stay South of Kuta - around Tuban is ideal. On the right side of Kuta for access to waves and not as crowded yet a 10 minute walk to heart of Kuta or $3 in a bluebird (taxi)

none others as cheap as Bali...

If you surf Ulus and want to get away from the crowds, just paddle east for 10 minutes. There's a good wave down there and not many people can be bothered paddling that far.

the bad thing with this site is all the pics are from the "good days". and most of the comments are unreliable. have you ever surfed sri lanka???

boyo, on the boat trips from bali, found it always heaps cheaper to hit up the little events booking joints (just on the side of the road, normally just go a wander down JL Legian and you'll suss out some decent dudes) or talk to the boys at the board shops to hook up a trip. Tend to be able to get a better deal than if you booked from aus
