Is it just me or are there other crew who have surfed for a long time, that are just sick and tired of doing the hop, rock up and see too many out at every spot, only to go home dry when the waves are good. I know most will say just get out there. i dont mean 10 or so, but 20 to 30 or more is just a joke. If you took turns would be lucky to get 1 wave every half hr or more ! Any solutions ? PS , none from you Jezza !

Yea I know what you are saying, its lucky (or not) that its quicker to get there and home again than it used to be with the bypass. Maybe thats why why there is more people in the water lately.

I moved down 3 yrs ago and despair sometimes just thinking bout goin to the reg spots, love to go to out of the way places ,but even they are being mobbed at times. Maybe it is just a case of give it a miss thru end dec/all jan and work, spend time with family, fish etc and enjoy quieter times, when ever that might be !

Well mac being a super cool type guy I can tolerate most things in life. But without sounding like a grumpy longboarder, I have started to arch up in the last few weeks. Hell all the blow ins dropping in or just sitting in the wrong spot. Swimmers body surfing in the sucky sections and weeds that think its comp day and paddle out and jump straight on the inside and try to smoke you.
Unlike me I have started to get aggressive, telling people to FO and shaking my head in frustration and giving the eye.

Ahh Mac Mac Mac, sounds like a phase I went through a while back. Is this happening at ur local mate? I hope not.

I turned it into a game;

Just have fun with it mate, I mean c'mmon - you know you can get waves.

Here's how it works.....

Everytime some one hassles you at ur local verbally is -10pts
Everytime someone hassles you and you get the next set wave - +20 pts

Everytime you get dropped in on is -5pts
BUT everytime you get dropped in on and claim ur ground (Brave heart style) is
+20pts

Board contact -10pts

Being out paddled back to the zone - 10pts

Blatent dropping in + 5pts

NEWSFLASH!!!! Its 2010....... There are now double the amount of surfers in the water as what there were 10 years ago. The groms today surf better than we ever did in "the day" and worse the cheeky little pricks have the best "comebacks"[}:)].
WHat worked back then clearly does'nt work today to score waves.
Sometimes ya gotta be a prick to get ur waves and it only takes a coupla good uns to make ur day. If you dont spin around and go the kook next to you will!!!
Time to FIRE UP you lot and take charge!!!!!!!!!! OWN IT!

Some of the best surfs I've had on the Northern Beaches have been when it's crappy and on-shore winds.

Im the same , dont drop in on competent surfers , kooks are a diferent story , but nothin irks you more than being blatantly burnt. If its a good wave then its on , and you dont forget that face even if you see them a week later .I go out of my way to give one back by sitting along side them ,not saying a word until they crack it when you do it . Might sound a bit agro but in this age it is what it is !

^Yea I get where ya goin, and I feel the same and have gone beserk a couple of times recently. But agro breeds more agro.

When I was in the Mentawis last year, some days we would have Pitstops, Kandui and any other boat or charter boat just rock up. I tell ya Ive never seen such politeness in the water with so many people.
Drop ins were rare and nobody was doing it on purpose anyway, ya just sat in the line up and generally there was so many waves comming through ya didnt have to wait long.

Dunno what the answer is but Ive had some friendly surfs down south and locally and its usually learners and kooks who generally make the problems.

And so you know, the ____ is for locals only, dont worry when you are there they will tell you.
If they do tell to go jump, I did

The issue is that there are say.....2000 people that only surf once every forghtnight , that work thier asses off during the week in South Western Australia that would have the urge to surf at any one time over the weekend or summer.
This is why things are the way they are- Surfing is a way of releasing tension.

As soon as you get remote it all changes- usually if ur remote at a surf destination you'd all ready have scored waves the last few days before and there 's no need to hassle for waves- There's always tomorrow

^^and remember back to last winter when it was****** cold, I do. It was f_cking cold ok, so as I remember the crowd thinned a lot over that time and I even remember Kearnsy calling out the cold.
Summer sucks for surfing, the swell looks like its going to come, then dosent, wind all over the place ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect

theres still waves out there that can still be had with little or no crew.....lets see now.....
5am dawnies- there always good
2nd shift- surfers are bound to get hungry
further away- take the family overnight
find your own spots in a 3hr drive range- who hasn't got google earth
BE ON IT seabreeze forecasting- hmm im sure that wave breaks only on that swell!

add all these together and you got yourself a break with nuc all crew out and your back for lunch with the family surfed out.

i hardly surf now cause of the agro & crowds. i surf for fun not to get bummed out and down. taken up other sports that could teach surfing a hell of a lot about what mateship and stoke in the water is about. i still go out but only if its uncrowded during the week and decent.

Just had a week off and surfed good waves in the S.W. all week - 3 days where there was no-one else there, just us.

'Course, I tell ya where we went but then I might live to reget doing that

^ Yep just had a week off myself and headed a 'little further South' than usual.
Talk about worth the drive, I just wish I had a bit of company, felt a little bit like shark bait sitting out there all alone on the best day.
I'm a reasonably old coj that used to hit the regular down south spots in the early 80's and man has it changed, however with a little effort and a good 4b we have still got it pretty good.
I was just about to post a photo but could see that the background gave the location away so you will have to take my word that last friday I hit a spot where I was completely on my own (there was three others out for the first 5 mins) where if I was still paddle fit enough I could have got dozens of stand up barrels. Instead I just sort of floundered around on the shoulder most of the time until the wind came in and I then got the barrels with the kite in my hands instead (still completely alone).
My mission this winter is to get as paddle fit as I can because the couple of good waves that I did manage to paddle into were kn awesome.
I am a total kite addict these days but still nothing beats that paddle in, ultra late take off, almost freefall, into an absolutely filthy overhead pit.... I am still buzzing.

Hey big handis,

I reckon the solution is seeking waves futher away from the densely populated areas, longer journeys more risks bigger payoffs.

Unfortunately for us the surfing population is set to rise, its going to get worse!

What do you do give up, nah.....

Good luck mate

Hey reach around handi,

Do you reckon they should put proper roads into the not so secret spots that are surfed in the south west?

Seems to be money to burn on roads everywhere else!

That lefties track is a classic must get 100 000s of cars a year, corri city.

Poor jez

Hey there Crush , long time no speak ,Na , no roads i reckon , gives the girls in there nice clean cars something to do when they get home ! You know when with work ,kids, the grind ,time wise you have to hit the closer spots to get wet . Also timing your surf can be good , just a bit of luck sometimes. Nothing beats getting away though , getting an offroad camper later in the year ,so cant wait to do some exploring !
