Got a few days spares between jobs in Asia and thinking of nipping over to bali to improve my surfing. So where is the best place to head to for a intermediate surfer in Bali with a decent surf school for lessons. Also looking for cheap accommodation. Be on my own so near to some life. Any views

Beats me why guys take the piss with a reasonable query.

We're not all shredders and chargers, peguin. There's a couple of schools along Kuta beachfront. More for beginners than intermediate, though you can usually get a guide from them that will head to some reasonable spots for you. They'll attempt to get you in and out of the breaks and find appropriate breaks for your level and even a cheap safe lunch.. Driver and guide between $80-100 for a 'day' if you have the cash. 5 days in Bali is like 6 months in Perth for your improvement. Some recommend Slim from Baliwaves but I haven't tried him. Nick, the bloke who runs this place prides it on being a 'barrel university rather than a surf school'.

His wife Dee was on Indo Master Chef, so the food is phenomenal!

Well worth checking out if you want a budget trip with the main focus to improve your surfing!

A friend of mine just got back from the Chillhouse and couldn't stop raving about it. Surfing really improved through tuition and watching videos back with the instructors, great food and really relaxed location. Not sure of the $$$ but she was super stoked with the experience. Might be worth checking out.

Find a good guide. If you do, really make the effort to chat and build a good friendship with them. By doing so, not only is it fun'ner but that trust means they will help you out. When I was over there (different island but), I did that. We got to surf some spots locals only knew about, the guides helped me snag waves in a tourist crowded line-up. Bullied out of towners if they were giving me a hard time and generally became my family. Furthermore they picked out my bad points in surfing and after taking the piss out of it (I was known as the poo man stance for a good few days), they helped me to improve.

Sounds a bit different to basic coaching Waveless. This practice of paying heavies to get you set waves at the name breaks is getting out of hand in Indo. Shameless

What goes around comes around. I think it's a sad sign of the times that it has gotten to this stage in surfing. What ever happened to good old fashion common courtesy. These days any kook with a few bucks and no morals can get whatever waves they want in Bali. I would find it hard to enjoy a surf if it came at the expense of ruining someone else's

don't read to much into it penguin,its pretty easy to get waves and accom in bali the whole place revolves around it.particulaly if you are learning.just turn up mate everything is on tap.im learning how to wave sail at the moment ,if you want to trade some experience I can show you around rotto and anywhere else in wa .don't know if you've sailed at radar reef or starks but I recon it would be epic

My little sister a few girlfriends went up to Chillhouse for a hens trip and loved it..Thats about all i know sorry
