Hi all,
I know this has been covered before, but has anyone got any reports on travelling to Bali with surfboards on Air Asia recently, is it all good if you pay the extra fee when you book and stick to the required size??

Yep i usually just pay for 30kg sports equipment and its all happy days. Prebook food and its cheaper and comes straight out too.

I've done Perth - Padang and Perth - Bali a bunch of times, never had any problems with Air Asia, but I always make sure I am under the max allowable weight.

Its a good idea to have a couple of kilos spare coming back from an indo trip, as everything always seems to get wet and heavier!

Have travelled to Bali a few times with Surfboards and Air Asia were good.

I had a really bad experience with Jetstar last April.

Tried to pre purchase luggage while on bali but their website kept failing to load - this went on for several days - and was starting to ruin evenings on holiday (as you can imagine spending hours wrestling with Jetstar's online misfunctionality)

In the end we thought bugger it - we will just purchase luggage at check in

BIG MISTAKE!!

Their "policy" is to up the baggage rates in the last 24 hours (it triples)

- I am happy to go with user pays but I will let you decide for yourself if jacking up luggage fees at the last minute is a trustworthy business policy - especially for a family that has already purchased 3 tickets with you...

So to get 24 kg of luggage back from Bali was $300 Aus .... and that was after fighting for a discount

Guess who doesnt love Jetstar now?

IF there is any volcanic activity Jetstar will strand you because they haven't negotiated the fees to be able to alter their route - Air Asia for example will continue to fly and just fly around the cloud - while the Jetstar passengers stress about their wasted holidays.

Spread the word - Its the only way for punters to realise how bad their value proposition actually is.

Generally good with Air Asia, used them many times when travelling with boards, but they are also the only airline where I have gotten my board back snapped clean in half, although having spent many years travelling round with boards having only damage once isn't too bad

i did a trip a few weeks ago with air asia and paid for the sporting equipment luggage. no worries.

i wouldn't want to be in those seats for any longer than 3-4hrs. just lacking leg room for me for longer flights.

I use AirAsia all the time and have never had a drama or any damage to my boards.
As long as I land where i'm supposed to then its all good.

Air Asia recently had a plane that crashed and killed over 100+ people in northern indo/asia

www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-02/poor-pilot-emergency-training-behind-airasia-crash-analysts/6995644

Had a known fault that wasn't fixed

That same plane had also flown to australia many times

Has made me seriously rethink going on air asia any where

ABC did a program on corruption in Indo Air Industry too
