Is it just me or do so many surf clips these days just have one or two moves from a wave then it's a cut to another wave

Personally, I like watching a full wave to see how they link turns and make different sections. Get a good idea of the flow and style of the surfer

More of that IMO

I agree with wanting to see it all (me too) but the problem with video editing is that you start with hours of footage that gets cut down to about 20 minutes and then cut again to an except able length for a YouTube type clip (only a few minutes) .. So you just end up with all the good bits.. Besides.. Most people have a very short attention span and would probably tune out before first bottom turn.. .. It seems a very editing trend these days to have vids edited like those 'People are amazing' type vids with heaps of very short bits all joins together.. My vids tend to be the opposite so they probably are very boring to most people..

A big problem with that is that a lot of these clips, the guys' waves consist really of just that one move. There are very, very few that can link stuff up and they're generally top 10 in the world. JJF can do it, for sure, but he's not nearly the best at it. One good example is Dane, and for each video wave that he blows minds on there would be another 100 that he doesn't.

yea both good points! i usually have a extremely short attention span so go figure.

I guess thats why I like watching the live webcast so much.. seeing the normal (boring) side of surfing is interesting to me.

I often finish a surf and head over to winki to watch the guys that can rip. you learn alot from that.. where to sit, timing of turns.. even how hard they actually paddle to get into waves.

This might seem stupid but I even like to see how they paddle onto a wave. Sometimes in clips they show someone so tight on a wave and I wonder 'how did they get there?' or they are speeding along and I want to know how they got the speed. There was a slow-mo video on here a while ago showing Kelly paddling on and I thought that was interesting.

This might show my lack of abilities here but I am even interested in the paddling out! I mean, I've occasionally seen footage of people paddling out and I find that's a real skill, because I get smashed (and scared) in things with size.

I hear ya paddle pig. I like watching the comps on the box because you get to see all the action. I'm not really into the competitive side of it although it does add a bit of drama. Watching the crew hunt down the wave paddle in and drop the line up the tude draw lines set up turns and surf in a variety of conditions. Then again and surfing is good to watch. I like the short burst vids to.
