OK so this might piss a few off but i want to ask it still

If you don't want to share surf reports, not interested in seeing other members put picks up of the surf they have just had, not interested in sharing ideas or spots, not interested in travel help on places to stay around your area,
What else could you expect to get out of a open public surf forum

Okay so maybe you could look at boards or fins or such but really if your so hell bent on not sharing positive moments in the surf maybe you would want to keep a great new product also to yourselves

I just don't get it.

For me i would love to see more of "Well i'm traveling to Mandurah this week end could anyone help me with a great spot to surf?" Or if someone was looking to come up my way i could share..Or how about "ill be down that way anyone keen for a surf together?"

Crowds will be there anyway. If you really don't like Internet or "The bush telegraph" i just cant see what else there is other than maybe surf board racks, or maybe covers to talk about..

Well said JB

I don't post much on here because of exactly that attitude.

I personally find surfing (riding whatever craft floats your boat) such a positive, life-enriching experience but after reading some of the discussions on here I wonder why some of the posters don't just give up and play golf.

I try to always come back to a butchered version of the old saying

" a bad day's surfing is better than a good day's just about anything else!"

I happen to be travelling to Mandurah every day this weekend. I'm hanging around with lots of free time. Anyone want to post up where is firing? Do you think we're having a private conversation and I'll be the only one who turns up?

Don't know where you surf but crowds won't be where I go
Hence the reason to keep a lid on it
I actually have learnt a lot from the Internet and enjoy reading the forums, I just don't see it necessary to drum up more business where I surf
If that doesn't fit into your seabreeze forum criteria then so be it

Very little on offer today...tiny inconsistant 666er infested reefs & busy beachies. Far better off travelling 90 minutes further South.

For you guys who think the internet makes no difference, well here is an example of how it does. My last trip to Bali (and it will be my last trip) I was surfing out at Ulluwatu, that's all I surf when I go out that way as there are so many breaks on one reef, anyway racetracks is breaking most at 3 to 4' and I came back to the loseman I stay at , run by and older balinese surfer also most of the crew there are living permanently. I mentioned that it was a bit strange as 1 day there would be 10 out and the next there would be 40 and unsurfable and the next day 10 again. They explained it was all due to the daily surf report, if it reads that day 3 to 4' with 10 out the masses read it that night and there is 40+ next day, then that night the masses read 40+ and they all go somewhere else and so it goes round in circles. I followed this trend on the computer and surfed uncrowded Ulu every second day and on the alternate days empty legian beachbreaks.

And now that handy tip will have everyday crowded, cheers

I don't think to many Brazilians and Eurotrash read this. My last trip was a few years ago now, any day at Ullu now under 6' has 70 guy's out, the horse has well and truly bolted, so I don't think there is any harm done, but thanks for validating my point.

Im not saying it doesn't make a difference. I don't think its as bad as the end of the world, there are other ways people find out about good surf. Crowds i think is part of a growing sport, more importantly a growing population. A classic example is Alkimos. Once upon a time miles from no were, now There is a community being built right onshore that will house something like 45000 people i was told... Im guessing that is going to get crowded Secret Harbour once i would surf all day with out seeing another surfer..Days after days. Now hows the crowd I'll give you a tip, its not busy just because of a few picks on a surf forum.

But why bother come on Seabreeze , an online community just to red thumb anyone who posts picks about surfing great waves Or locations / spots...What else shoudl we do? Talk sharks Maybe that might help with the crowds..

The thing that bugs me is when people get flamed for mentioning places that ARE NO SECRET! like heavy thumbs for naming Trigg, or other places... You're joking right. What a bunch of clowns.

Blokes like Zuke and Bakes keeping a lid on it, yeah I get that...

Well what if the regulars down there don't want that great spot publicised. Whilst down that way I have overheard a conversation mentioning a breezer who post about a particular spot, and I won't repeat what was said as it was pretty nasty.

As mac said in the long room, a pm would be a less upsetting way of doing things.

^^^^^^yes, a certain breezers posts are madness IMO. So easy to work out where the pics are taken with a little detective work. And it is not a spot known to the Perth masses, however I suspect that will change.

Validating our point??? Bawhahahaha.... I just found it ironic that you had a whinge on here about people on the net that comment about surf conditions can wreck a surf spot, but then you go on to tell everyone on here your little trick to score ulu's uncrowded. Guess what... Every person on this site that travels to bali regularly will now most probably employ your trick as well.

Sssshhhhhh!!!!!!

Talk about bring the crowds, sheesh.

Well your point is mute, cause as I said that trick no longer applies, so actually it was quite a good example as it is a situation that doesn't exist any more. I personally don't care what anyone does, who or where they tell whatever, I was just discussing itnot whinging about it. Personally, I'm like others on this site, i don't offer info to anyone I don't know well. If a seebreezer pm'd me and asked for some info I'd point them in the right direction, same as I would if I was having a yarn to most interstate surfers I'd meet up with in the local car park.

I think your spot on there
City surfers think they have local rights on all breaks in the state
Fill the car up with people, strap the coffins to the roof, pull into a spot, all paddle out at the same time straight to the inside

I have seen the term "local" thrown about a fair bit in this thread and others . . .

Who or what is a "local"?

What are the criteria to be able to call yourself a "local"?

Who decides this?

Here's a couple of really funny clips that show how ridiculous the whole concept of "localism" is when you look at it from a different angle . . .

no i think its just common sense,,...for a selfish sport like surfing, why upload photos of breaks that are semi secret? less waves for you!!

I usually find the biggest supporters of localism are the people that live near good waves
The people most against live where the waves are terrible

and there is the problem, I consider surfing to be an unselfish sport. It's that attitude that causes all the problems, yeah I like to surf with fewer people if I can but if people realised that we are all out to get a few waves and not everything that comes our way then we can all have a good session.

That second video showed why localism is needed. Those 2 kooks actually came around and said ok let's have a beer, so the pro surfer smashes it over his head and then paddles out and burns someone on a wave, give them and inch and they'll take a mile

If that's the case it makes sense why you continue to post the photos you do despite being asked to stop by locals.

Goodvibes, it's not been a huge issue. The numbers at this spot have not increased since I put up pics, not one person has ever said one word to me whilst I'm there about this issue. I don't know who you are but I suspect you changed your username at some point as your issues seem familiar. I don't go for the localised bull**** except for the way we share waves with those we know and the way we treat crew that don't respect that, say hi the next time your out there

Posting photos and offering reports of sessions would make the forum more interesting in more ways than one. The forum has been a bit slow of late. In saying that there is no way I would post about the places I surf except for maybe the well known spots as they are well publisised anyway. Scubas movie the other day was classic. I really enjoyed it. Stuff like that makes the forum interesting. But how do you choose? Fuel TV doesnt seem to mind.

A windsurfer's perspective..... sharing spots online has fkd it for us. Maybe cos we have a lot more tourism ie: people come here for wind and waves, but surfers don't really travel to WA I guess, they go to Indo or Fiji etc.
But even without the international tourist perspective, sharing secret spots online is wrong.

Think of the blokes who discovered it. A whole day driving down a beach for 40km getting bogged repeatedly to find a wave that works OK. Then going again to find it works better in a SW swell. Then again to find it really needs hi tide and 2m SW swell. and so on. A lot of work. He shares it with a few friends and it is nice. That is how we all did it. Geez I hav one that we are still waiting to use after 5yrs as we know when it will work - once or twice a year - and after all my work I'd be pissed if some prick wrote about it here.
Fast forward to 10yrs later - the GenY method - google it, "I deserve it the same as anyone else" (with no work or effort) I show up and just surf it then put it on Facebook. No work needed and triple the crowds.

Then what was peace and quiet for a few, suddenly has wicked vans illegally camping nearby with rubbish everywhere and u can't get a park etc. I can think of one legendary spot that has gone that way and it is a disgrace now. The filth is terrible.
Then the pricks have the nerve to call you out when they drop in on you....

My attitude's different to yours. I want every wave I can get. I had a session a couple of weeks ago - catch wave, run up the point, rock off, straight back into the next wave, repeat for 90 min. Still not enough. I'm out there to surf, not watch others surf. A few waves isn't enough.
