It looks like a dog shape to me. That template is ugly. Just my opinion. At beginner level it probably doesn't matter much anyway, don't remember. My first glassed board had more water weight than foam and glass weight, big round rails and a multi-coloured single fin with a pin tail.

It'll be easy to paddle and will get you through until you need something decent

Depends how you look at the statement, I got that its not a board your going to want to keep for ever or progress into, but its a board that's going to get you up and going. But from your statement I got , i needs a snickers........

Wish I still had the lazor zap I learnt on.

I'm with Vibes..when your a learner you need stability..IMO a single fin is better starting point than a thruster anyday just to get your balance on an object moving on moving water.
A BIC is an option, but take the side bites (side fins) out and run it as a single for a while.
