Expect inconsistent and crowded surf wherever you go in wa. It gets good sometimes but only fora day or two, not weeks like the east coast. You'll only need a 3/2 steamer tho.

I like your comment 'is it safe to surf by yourself?' I reckon you've seen some decent surf. Given you're moving to Maddington, may as well leave your boards at home. Perth beaches are straight, crowded, kneehigh crap. I guess you could pick up a reefy here or there. But a bloke like you who is used to 'not surfing alone' and I am guessing has seen some decent surf, you gotta take a bit of a drive from Maddington.

Ill be around maddington area, but i will have a night job so that leaves me weekdays... i think i will just book in a bunch of surf lessons and go from there.
and i live on the north west coast of tas, went out today and there was 1 other person that left not long after i arrived.
I have only been surfing for about 4mths, and i only just got a wetsuit this week... :P

Weekdays doesn't make difference, still crowded due to fly in fly out workers south metro or north all the same.

Lessons good idea, as is a helmet to protect your head from all of the out of control boards

Oh snap. Well that's a bit disappointing. I have seen good waves, but I have not been able to get to them just yet. And I have seen one or maybe two surfers out there, but if I say, got bitten by a shark. I doubt they would hear me scream :P
I actually have a 7 foot mini mal, but I was hoping to downsize by the time I got to Perth. Funny comment about the wheels getting flogged driving through thornlie, its definitely going to be a big difference to little ol tassie.
So how far away am I looking at travelling for decent surf? Like I said I have my days free 7 days a week until about 5pm, I guess if I'm serious about playing in shark water I will travel for it.
