Recently I have been looking into the webber afterburner and fat burners.
I generally surf 2-4ft beachbreaks and have been surfing for 2 years (20 surfs a year). I am 5,11 83kg... i like the fatburners paddle power and ability to catch waves but unsure on how the manuvarability will be. Any1 have experience with either of these boards.

Cheers

I ride an afterburner and love it.
Really easy to paddle and get up to speed.
Its great for small punchy beachies.

I was talking about the bbq....

Thanks for the replys fellas. I keep reading a lot of bad things about the webbers being cheap asian boards ect ect...I think i will look into the afterburner as I am hoping to keep my surfing consisitent and hopefully skills will improve. The easy wave catching on the fatburner sucked me in a little but yeahh hmm still sitting on the fence.

Ill be on the look out for an afterburner. May just buy one brand new.

Aussie,...by cheap asian boards they are referring to the global surf industries versions which are mass produced. You can buy direct from Greg Webber himself and he will shape the board in Sydney and send to you. This is how I got mine and its seriously one of my favourite all time boards. Theres a photo of it sitting off the back of our boat on my profile if you are interested. The day the photo was taken we surfed a double head peak and it held in fine even at that size. But its really good for my local beachy as well.

Yes, and they are rubbish. I've had an SLX Pulse (the re-branded fatburner) which lasted less than 6 months.

Expect deck depressions, rail shatter and dings galore - your repair guy will love you!

I'd definately be on the lookout for something more durable, but if you're dead set on the webber, go for a tufflite construction, or order direct from Greg himself.

I wouldn't touch a GSI board again with a barge pole.

go for afterburner (6'7 I would say for your weiht and expierience), ride it a couple of times with original plastic fins to learn what piece of crab this board is, then get a set of am-g fcs fins and feel the magic transformation. u will be laghing !

Plenty of shapers around there, I would be looking at talking to one of them first.

I can recommend a guy in Ocean Grove. Depends how flush with $ you are and how much you like surfing, I guess. 20 surfs a year isn't much. 20 a month is a bit more committed (no slight against you, I'm just saying that some people might be willing to spend more based on time in the water).

When you live in Melbourne west its an hour drive so I average a surf every fortnight. On holidays I may surf for a week straight but then in winter maybe not even once a fortnight. Who do you reccomend?

Thinking over it again its probably closer to 30-35 surfs a year.

hey aussie
drop josh an email or post on FB. his boards are works of art by the way, but he always seems to find time to reply to enquiries, and last time i heard from him his personal choice in boards was pretty close to what you are after - with a flourish or two! happy hunting
