Great, so they've killed an old mature white shark in a suspected mating area.
It seams to have just been an accident but it's a shame. The odds are highly stacked against white sharks to make it to that size, so it's a pity to see it 'drown' in a fisherman's net. Even more so as you cannot eat them...well, you can, but the meat is like poison.

Ohwell, someone will make buku bucks off those fins.

sorry, it was actually an old one from 2010, but i had the date wrong... had been looking for this one from cape town that i heard about from last week:

www.foxnews.com/world/rescue-officials-shark-kills-man-off-cape-town
shark killed a surfer off Cape Town Thursday, South African police said.

Police spokesman Andre Traut said the 20-year-old South African was in the water with his brother and a friend at the time of the attack. Police did not immediately release the man's name.

Following the attack, the government canceled a permit that had allowed a research film crew to throw fish and blood into the water to attract sharks, a practice known as chumming. Critics had said the chumming could attract sharks to popular beaches, but the government's department of environmental affairs had said the researchers were working too far from shore for it to be a threat.

Thursday, environmental affairs spokesman Zolile Nqayi said the permit was withdrawn to calm panic among the public, not because officials believed the chumming was linked to the shark attack. Nqayi said the chumming was being done far from the site of the attack.

the earlier link is about one in 2010 doggy, which was apparently a "dinosaur sized" GW...would be amazing to see, but also frickin scary as hell

The funny thing is, the research crew chummed less than a third of what gets chummed daily by the cage diving boats that operate in that same area.

wow suba, you continue to amaze me by how many haters you've raked up and how consistently they hate. but haters gonna hate... how is suba on his high horse swalkington? you're being like my gf when i talk about the dynamics of a surfboard - them eye start a rollin...

from my pov, suba is the only one here that is formally educated on the subject, so its actually nice to get an insight into the studied reality, rather than just lapping the media up as though it were bible like everyone seems to do.

Curtainly hasn't got much of a fan base according to all the red thumbs.
He gets very deffensive if anybody questions his percieved facts and it pisses people off. He'd gain a lot more respect if he didn't feel the need to resort to common insult and name calling during disscusion. If he's knowledgeable on the subject he should answer his critics with science, rather than trying to look smart by putting others down.

He's not the only one using SB with a formal marine education. Just the only one vocal.

I really don't give a rats about about red thumbs, green thumbs, National Geo, Suba, Swalkington or any other bloke on here.

Tell what does fkn $hit me to tears though, is wankers chumming up big fark orf animals with lots of sharp teeth to interact with humans, no matter whether those humans happen to be in a cage or not.

Bloody stupid idea.

You make a highly generalised statement which can't possibly be passed off as 'fact', and then you become abusive when somebody offers an alternate opinion.

No wonder you're the red thumb champion on here.

Douchebag.

Looks like the twin of the above-featured Guaymas behemoth is adding a bit of excitement to Spring Break in Florida.

Did anyone else see the commercial fishing boat that has been cleaning down the decks on Cowaramup bay. Apparently it leaves a oil slick right across the bay and they have been reported to local authorities but still continue to do it[}:)] That's chumming.. IMHO

That looks more like a Orca and they have never been known to attack humans in the wild.

I understand Subas frustrations. I had a customer yesterday (obviously a expert) that we will have no more attacks locally for a while as the shark that has been killing up and down our coast is no longer here and has moved to SA . He can prove that because he says its all one shark doing the attacks. He said that it is sick and can't hunt properly so its now just eating humans. He couldn't explain that if its sick why has it now swam half way around the world? Couldn't it find any more swimmers in WA.

The guy was 100% serous and apparently has a mate in fisheries who proved this theory

But i agree name calling doesn't help, just adds to the sport
