Im heading to Tasmania next week for 5 days. I have only got a 3x2 suit, is it warm enough over there? Water temp seems to be around 14c which sound pretty cold to me. My suit is a few years old too.
Whats the usual winter suit over there? 4x3 im guessing...Looks like there will be a few waves over there next week.

Depends where you're going in Tassie. Down around Hobart would be f----- freezing at this time of year. 4/3 would be the safe bet.

down south the water is about 10-12 fcking cold, you will want a good 4/3, hood, booties and maybe gloves, but the crowds have thinned right down

Hot in a 3/2 in 14c water! That Patagonia suit would be more my thing..used to have a 6/4 in the UK, paddling was a b@stard!
Gonna be all over Tassie, mainly around Hobart way...if the surf is good enough it's worth the hypothermia risk...

Spent a couple of years down there and surfed all over and could only afford a 3/2 at the time used a rashie under it and discovered the benefits booties. Found that I had to limit my session times in the worst of it. Surfed a river mouth on an outgoing tide after a snowmelt and lasted 25 mins on the same day my mates echo sounder on the boat in the river said 8 deg c water temp. Returned to perth around this time and found myself sweating in a 2mm springy when the sun came out until I acclimatized , long story short is you should get by with booties and a rashie by limiting your water time if you have to.

Maybe I should write my last post again, just to make sure!
I don't think even bear grylls would go in 8c water in a 3/2 wettie, that's Eskimo stuff that is...

Water is warmer down here than usual, should be about 12 c, so I was assuming that it may also be a little warmer in Hobart than usual.

Down my way a lot of blokes in my town wear Patagonia's as they are sold off cheap. After the placebo affect wears off most go back to ripcurls and o'neils more flex and warmer.
