Hi all. I've bought a couple of new boards for a trip to the Ments.
Can I claim GST at the airport for them?
I am probably looking at bringing them with me.
I believe they are cracking down on this now.
Personal experiences appreciated.

What's there to crack down on? Legally you are entitled to claim. I've received tax refunds on kite gear, surfboards, snowboards, mountain bikes, laptops, cameras, phones, jewelry for my missus... just give yourself way more time before departure for checked in items you want to claim.

I've claimed to. For surfboards you need to show. So you have to do it before check it in and need an airport with an external office (that's opened and staffed). Pain if you have packed your boards well. I've had some officers not interested in a thorough look and others that want to match a serial number to receipt. I've heard of people knocked back because receipt doesn't contain enough information. Haven't heard about crack down. Ring before or go online

Mine was a brand new Webber stick few years back on a way to NZ.
The officer just checked the board's logo matches to receipt.

on the website pearl posted it says that you only get to bring back in goods to the value of $900 and still have the exemption apply.

So if you take 2 or more, be sure to charge hard and maybe snap a couple, so that you don't have to pay it back

It used to be that your $ limit (was $700 at the time) had to all be on one receipt, so you could get your leggies etc tax free too.

Isn't it only for non-residents leaving Australia? Are you travelling on a non-Australian passport?
