I would appreciate your advice in terms of what size to go with SP. I am a beginner surfer, 188 height, 86kg (been surfing for a year now). I am wondering 5'10 or 5'8 to go with. I tend to ride small waves chest to high. Also is it good board for a beginner.

I'm 6 foot, 82 kg and have been surfing a 5' 4". With a bit more youth (I'm 46) I would probably use a 5'2". These boards are designed to be surfed short and stack heaps of volume for there length. Amazing fun in small waves and you can catch anything on them. Not trying to discourage but due to the short length they could maybe be a bit twitchy for someone with 1 year experience. There could be better options out there. If you have your heart set on the Sweet Potato then maybe the 5'10" it certainly won't lack in paddle power and you could always down size at a later date. Good luck.

+1 if your a beginner, there are much better boards to learn on and you will probably pick them up cheaper as well.

I have a 5'5" baked potato and love it. Very similar to the sweet potato but you can surf them more on rail and more aggressively without loosing grip. As mentioned before these boards go best in small to tiny waves which aren't to hollow. Due to the nose width and lack of entry rocker if you surf hollow stuff you have to be on your game or your spend a fair bit of time going over the handle bars. I suggest you go to one of the stores that lend out firewire test boards. Most of these stores tend to have a least one sweet potato even if the size isn't exactly what you want it will give you an idea on how they feel and paddle and if it's what your looking for.

here is my 508 sweet. I am thinkng about selling it as I have replaced it with a smaller BP. Love the board though, just a bit of a handfull in more powerful waves.
