Headed there on a kite trip with some friends next weekend (along with the rest of the WA wind junkies) Should I bring a board to surf? or just get my fill of water with the kite?

(yeah I know always travel with a stick but the girlfriend bought the cheep tickets on jetstar so I don't want to push the baggage too hard as they dont' like me)

Mate if there is a bit of swell and the tide is up and the wind from the east back beach is the place if not kite untill your arms fall off.

There are heaps of reef breaks as well but back beach gets good on a high tide

G'day all,

Anyone know what the banks and tides are like on the back beach this week? I've done a couple of early morning surfs mid week before work and the tides in metro area (between Trigg 2nd carpark and 3rds) have been super shallow... last weekend I saw a guy 'graze' the skin off his forehead after a nasty dump.

Two weekends ago I did the early run to Lano BB only to find it completely unsurfable - it was fin deep on the bank and despite a reported swell, it was barely waist high.

thanks

Sharks? Never seen any there, not saying they are not there just never seen them.

Dolphin(yum) and seals heaps. In fact a seal jumped between me and a mate as we were on our way out to hole in the wall and scared the shizzle out of us.
Funny now, not then!!

Dude Dec-Jan time Lano is fickled- especially back beach. As it moves into March it is much more reliable and consistent. If you fail back beach (and most times we drive straight past) and u got a 4B head up towards wedge way, few good breaks along the bombing range. But yeah this isn't the right time 4 Lano. Best off headin south if you are keen even to mandurah (even tims or Melrose) if u don't have heaps of time .

.....Back Beach ?......Edward Island, Hole In The Wall, South Passage - nice left , back of Lancelin Island - good left when it's 6' and over, and my favourite - the right on the southern end of Lancelin island - on the right day with a medium offshore swell it's a fun right up to 3 - 4 foot with a great inside section.
Shag Rock just North of Eddies (as I call it - when it's big the rights break out far enough for a take off, but pull out before the inside reef otherwise your history - pretty narly but worth the challenge ), Bombing range ( 4WD ) , Bombies just South of Edward Island,
but I can't remember when all those breaks turned on since we were plagued with these constant every day Southerly winds.
..damn, there goes all my secrets.
