Hi all, I need some help re choosing the right volume surfboard. I have looked at all the calculators over the net but prefer other real surfers opinions on what works.
I am a 6'0 and a little overweight at 95kgs but reasonably fit and been surfing consistently for over 30 odd years except for the last couple due to a newborn and DIY home reno's. Recently I went to pull out my 6'4 x 19 shortboard after a long break and I struggled big time to catch waves and am not enjoying my surfing resurgence at all.
So now looking at some high volume funboards that are everywhere these days to bring back the enjoyment.
I can get my hands on a 5'9 x 22 with 37.5L volume but wondering if this will be enough or should I go longer say 6'1 x 22 3/4 with 43L volume.
Appreciate your thoughts and feedback

IM 5'10" and 95 kilos Reasonably fit, average surfer and i surf around 34 litres and up to 45 litres for my real small summer board. I think it would also depend on type of board and type of waves.

Thanks guys, boards I am looking at are for Gold Coast beachies so with a 5 fin set up and rounded diamond type tail. I avoid the zoos at the points as much as I can. Sounds as though the bigger board may be my best option to start with then move down as I get my surf fitness and weight down. Cheers Dazza

Also have a look at the Channel Islands Average Joe. Its no performance board but if you're looking to just get some fun back into your surfing it will tick all the boxes.

Why not demo some boards to establish the amount of foam you're now more comfortable with whether its achieved in a short high volumed or a longer sleeker board?
