Hey everyone. I'm after a bucket style helmet for the surf. Other than Andy Cap does anyone know where I can find one that looks like the one in the photo? What brand is it?

Found out that the one in the photo is a Head Trip. The model is a Polo but he is actually wearing it backwards. They make plenty of other styles too. Emailed them to see if they send to Australia.

All good. Thanks for asking. Been for a couple of surfs already. Little on the edge but I'm sure that will go away.

That helmet provides bugger all protection BTW. It probably wouldnt even hold in place when needed.

even worse. the helmet will catch water and give you neck problems. The old original gath with solid ear sides is the best I have seen , tried their new ones with sun visor(crap it catches water and is heavy ) and their separate ear model.( crap, the ears explode off when you get nailed. and catches water) helmets save lives. but have to be light and not catch water ( their lightest one is only 330grams) the original had 2 slits for ear drainage , the new gath has a swivel which breaks, glue these up and they are ok.

Green room - is this for recovery or are you now convinced on permanent helmet wearing?

I wonder if something like the rugby helmets, tweaked for water use, would suffice.

Not for recovery. All good now.
Have an old Gath worn sometimes when windsurfing offshore, big waves or trying loops. But never had it on when surfing.
The last few years been getting into the bigger stuff. Got a 9 x 20 x 3 gun and getting a 10 x 21 1/4 x 3 3/4 for next winter.
After having first serious accident it's made me think back to all the near misses I've had. So a good comfortable and effective helmet is needed.
There is a local bloke making custom helmets which I'm more than likely gonna go with but was just seeing what else was out there.

Ive worn a Gath helmet before and don't think they are safe for your neck if you hit the water the wrong way but obviously will protect your head from impact injuries from board or reef.Any way i have a large gath if interested
