i've been to galapagos recently and didn't meet any volunteers on an islands. I wouldn't think it'd be an easy gig to land. How is your spanish?

English teaching on the other hand could be an option and maybe in an area where there's surf.

What areas are you looking at and I can ask my friends?

oh okay thanks , yeah i have absolutely no Spanish skills...unless Italian counts, i would be prepared to take up lessons however. Really anywhere with some waves, or at least a nice coastline. I would like to do something a little more adventuress than getting pissed for schoolies, and it would be great if i could make a difference to the community as well.

so how long do you want to go for? And what skills do you have to offer? What type of volunteer work do you want to do?

Pretty important to read up a bit on voluntourism - not to scare you off but sometimes a volunteer can do more damage than good for a local community. Usually things like visiting orphanages or teaching for a week, taking on a project for which skills are lacking can all be more damaging.

On the other hand you sound like an absolute champion. So great to hear of younger people who are keen to get involved.

I have previously worked in 2 separate schools in cambodia teaching english and then recently assisted at a school in peru (cusco (machu pitchu place)).

I can reccomend a place called montanita (surf spot) in ecuador which runs a volunteer project out of a spanish school. But that location is a major party location and there is some heavy drug use.

What about the idea of volunteering for a time period and then dedicating a bit of time to surf??
