Well I ended up with the new 7S SuperFish II in Epoxy - 7'3" x 22" x 2 13/16

I rode the Poly Mk I version for about 3-4yrs and was very happy with it as an 'all-rounder'... Being a bit older, heavier and unfitter I decided the paddle benefit and extra float of the Epoxy was the go - and the new updated shape looked the goods.

The SF2 paddles really well - I would say easily as well as my McT FB Evo 9'1"... and it catches nearly everything you go for... I have surfed it four times now and it definitely out paddles the poly version, and seems faster too...

However, the one thing I am struggling to adjust to is the corkiness - it seems to sit higher in the water, and seems to be very twitchy/skatey if there's any chop or lump to the wave face... I kooked a few moves I really should have made, with the board going out from under me, and/or skipping on a chop and caused me to lose balance.

I need a few dozen more good waves to call this board... fingers crossed its a keeper as I really do like the extra paddle and higher wave count

G'day weiry...

I took out the stock fins and put in a set of Simon Anderson S25 - Performance Core (large) that I have been very happy with.

I have however noticed that the (quad) set-up is different between the V1 and V2 SF...

I am currently 6 foot 2 inches tall at 95kg and a couple of years ago was 105kg (fat bastard). Try a Webber afterburner. I have the 6'7" model and it floats me really well. I have surfed it in anything from small beachbreaks to double head pits on the rock. Doen't seem to be corky (which is a problem with most high volume boards). Boards that are too corky can be worse than a board that is too small sometimes in my opinion. Corky = stuck in lip of wave = over the falls.

Are you in Perth?, if so Da Lewy do a "biggy small" which is a high volume shortboard.

JS have a few high vol models as well that look sweet.

I know it's gonna sound strange but try putting the standard spaghetti fins back in and give it a burl.
Was surfing with a mate on Saturday, who had just dropped a new set of performance core fins into his quad that previously had the standard flexy jobbies. He lasted half an hour before going back to the spaghetti fins, found it way too skatey and jumpy with the stiffer fins in.
You've got nothing to lose.....

You're right, it does sound strange... but will try after my next surf if it is still skatey... must remember to take fins and FCS tool!

Thanks for the tip from your mates experience...

Update: Epoxy + PC fins being way too 'skatey'

Put the stock M7/M3's back in and it seemed a lot better... however, the waves today were nothing like those I surfed previously so not a good comparison. The board still seems a little twitchy - but did not have it skip or skate on me once...

I'll leave the stock fins in for a few more sessions before retrying the Performance Cores again.

cheers for the tip Smicko.
