Hi guys, Im going to buy a mini simms, just wonder the difference between the 2 fin options, and should I get them glassed in or get a fin system. Ive never ridden or had one so any feedback would be great.

Hey Mitts, What sort of MS are you looking at? Without knowing the shape / dimensions / bottom shape it's pretty hard to determine which will be the best option. I've had one for a few months now and it's one of the funnest boards I've ridden in average waves. Mine's a twin keel (FCS) but I reckon I would prefer glassed in

If you are going to be travelling with it I would recommend a fin system - just makes life so much easier.

Go with a fin system.
I enjoy playing around with different fin setups and seeing how the different fin shapes, sizes and flexes affect a boards performance.
As ted said also, makes travelling a little easier also.

I agree with Mitchbat, depends on shape, rocker, bottom etc.

I have a 'traditional' mini-simmons with twin balsa glass-ons. Brilliant paddler, fast, super fun - not much of a performer but not designed to be, but can ride the tiniest of wind slop with ease.

I've had a go on a Yahoo Kelvinater - Much more refined, FCS quad setup, more range in hollow waves, blows the 'traditional' out of the water in terms of performance, but doesn't grovel as well.

Personally, if I was to purchase another, I'd sacrifice the paddle, and go down the performance path - mini-simmons concept, but contemporised.

Depends on your surfing style and intended waves I suppose.

All true, benefits are there for the quads....
Dont know why but I love the keels, love the drive.
It just seems more fishy with keels.

gday all

can anyone recommend a store in perth or SW that stocks a few mini-sims ? shaping a timber one and would like to scope a few out prior to getting stuck in with the planer, but have only really seen pictures of the boards online.

i'm 90kg, 6ft tall - and was going to try 5' 6" ; 22"; 3" - approx
thought twin fin, with probably fcs fusions or futures box - quad is an interesting thought given i can go for whatever i want with the fin boxes...

cheers for any heads up

Star surf have a selection of mini sims in, at least the one in Mandurah does.
I have been keeping an eye out for one but don't want to pay out the premium pricetag that these boards seem to attract.
I did have a surf on a 5'6" one recently, felt very corky and kinda hard to paddle in to waves , but very fast and loose when up and riding.

Three stories in Freo had a few nice mini sims in last time I was there.
