Anyone had issues getting boards greater than 6'3" to Bali flying Jetstar. Flew Jetstar the year before last and had no problems. Wondering if this is stricctly enforced, or not at all?

Pretty sure I have although that would be a few years ago, and my triple board bag at the time was 7' with no issues. I usually fly Garuda though.

My gf moved to Bali a couple weeks ago. She took a 7'4" kook-o-matic with her on jetstar and had no issues at all.

it depends on which model of plane you are flying on. Most flights from Perth are on an A320 which has a maximum length of 1.9m. This is apparently due to the size of the cages they carry the luggage to the plane on. My mate was knocked back last year for a 6'5 and ended up having to buy a board over there. I wouldn't risk anything bigger as they might just jam it in the cage and damage your board. Any flight on A330 etc are fine for longer boards. Also 6'3 is your board bags length not the board

were definitely on an A320, heard of people being knocked back before hence the question. We flew a320 last time also.

Best to just avoid Jetstar and all super budget airlines worldwide with surfboards, or any oversize/overweight extras for that matter. They see it as a chance to sting you and make a bit back, whereas the less cut-price ones don't have to be so opportunistic with the same situation.

Case in point: I flew from Auckland to Dublin with a three board bag. Flew Air NZ from Auckland to London, ticket price roughly NZD$950.00. No charge for surfboards. I then got a connecting flight from London to Dublin with Ryanair, ticket price EURO$80.00 and got stung per kilo plus an oversize premium totalling EURO$240.00 or NZD$480.00 or about half the cost OF MY WHOLE FLIGHT HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD WITH SURFBOARDS.

Needless to say I was rather unhappy. But when I looked at the next flight and the accommodation and taxis etc it came to the same amount so I just threw my Credit Card at the check in chick and gave her my opinion of Ryanair's pricing policy. I was totally cornered and had no option but to pay.

Buying a ticket and turning up at the airport with no option but to fly and hoping it will be ok with boards which break the guidelines is putting yourself in a position prone to exploitation and opportunistic price gouging.

But on the other hand ya could get an extra few bintangs and a pack of darts with the leftover loot so hey give it a crack.

Always had a great result with Air Asia, Never a problem with Boards.

Jetstar last time everything came out allright.No issue with board size

Garuda a few times and once they totally wrecked 1 board with huge pressurie obviously from something heavy laying ontop of it and sliding. Have flown to Bali over 35 times thats the worst of it as far as board damage.

As far as packing goes, a Quality 10mm board cover and i use Yoga mats cut to shape top, bottom and in between for a double board bag and the excess cut of goes intermitantly around the rails. Havent had so much as a scatch since doing this.

Yoga Mats cost 10 bucks each at k-mart and have survived 5 trips to bali so far and still going.

i went to Bali in July flying from perth with Jetstar a320.

took 2 boards in 1 bag - 6"4 and 6"0. no problems at all.took the 6"4 a few years earlier also on a jetstar and no issues.

think it's hit or miss depending on who is doing the bulky baggage.
