Just putting it out there....how is it any different to a surf comp?
Comp sponsors pay fees to the local council to hold events and consequently get exclusive use of that comp area.....
I would like to think if Nike did actually pay for exclusivity ....at least they were nice enough to acknowledge the locals as such...and didn't just show up and tell everyone to F.Off. Which happens all too much at some places when camera crews and skis show up and start causing chaos in a line up.
Well generally a surf comp is for the people not one company, unless the comp is sponsered by a company and even then its generally not just one like the case here.
Are you talking about an ASP event or local boardrider event as there is a massive difference.
Does'nt make a difference if its one sponsor or a number of sponsors, you're still not allowed to surf there for the duration of the event heats are you?...and we're talking a 12 day window not just 2 hours.
Think Margs Pro...You have to buy a ticket just to get in the bloody carpark! Think Bells with the road access restricted. All run by sponsors who have paid a 'fee' for exclusivity and control of the location...
Stepping off the comp scene...how about film makers, box office or otherwise? They can submit requestspay fees to get exclusive rights to a shoot location. They can pay to have cops on site to keep public out. Bloody hell Home & Away has had Palm Beach for how long?
You will find that, in most councils, legally anyone running an event anywhere in public space has to registerpay a fee to hold the event...and with that they can get certain levels of exclusivity ie restriction of public access, blocked roads, council rangers on site to maintain security...depends on what you ask for.
