I love the names of surf breaks and I also love making up new names myself. Is only the right of the pioneer who names the break or do you think other wise. My favourite name which I created for a break is "why would you want toos" pronounced "why would you wannoo's". Who's got a cool name for there local?

Hmmm Interesting thought! How many new names get made up every week? How many smokin perfect new waves get descovered every day, how many filthy pits go unridden ,unseen and with out a drop of water out of place? Its fun finding new waves and even more to name em. Its usuly somthing stupid tho but guess my localls is caleed "Rambo's". Im out there!!!!

Gota a laugh at the reinventing of surf spots that other guys have been surfing for 25 years, someone new comes along and starts calling the spot by a new name as if they are trail blazing.

In another life i surfed there 4-5 times a week for 10y
now, I need something more.
BUT AS FOR MY KIDS they love it boy 5 /girl 11
i think you would learn more about life & surfin at da point, in 12months than any were on the metro coast

Hi Spot 1. No denying Trigg " Point " -
( in fact isn't a true point ), is a great wave on it's day. If you can handle the crowds fine, but for me it's just got way, way too crowded. Last time I went out there for a surf which would be at least 3 years ago now , it was just so hopelessly crowded and quite dangerous. Boards were flying everywhere and the drop ins were rife.
No matter how deep I took off, someone would drop in on me either immediately, or even down the line. I have great memories of one of the best sessions I ever had there. It was mid 70s, hot summer's afternoon, moderate on shore, 6 foot off the bubble, and guess what -only four other guys out for 2 hours late afternoon .
The closest I get to Trigg these days is for a relaxing swim and lunch with my wife and family around the other side of the rock.
Me learning more about life ? I am in my 50s, still ride a 6 foot board, am happy than I have ever been.
When we all get a bit older we may find that life will have taught us quite a lot.
Anyway, whatever the main thing is wherever you surf enjoy it. That's all that matters.
My life mantra : " Every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every night, every month , every year, every breath, every heartbeat is my precious gift. "

You all know that rock at Trigg inbetween 2nd and 3rd carpark?
My brothers mates use to call it Fraggles (Fraggle Rock)
Is this what everyone calls it or was it made up by my brothers mates?
I think its a classic name

Nope he just watched TV long time back. Fraggle Rock was a cartoon segment, on in the mornings. Used to get up and go to work 5.30 am, and just before I left, my wife and daughters started to get up to watch "Fraggle Rock" Fraggles was the little cartoon characters in the show. And the place they lived was Fraggle Rock
Our field service crew (me included) nick named Alcoa sites down South, as Fraggle Rock,

Hi Greenroom, I think they might, next time I'm out surfing there I'll paddle up and ask a few guys.
...get back to ya.
I hear tell some have named it " roundsignwithrocksonit"
By the way, is there in fact actually a rock or rocks there at all ?
Last time I looked it was a sand bottom.
Cranium hit the bank fuul force a few months ago so I was in a good position to make a visual inspection of the bottom....

Yes there is a big kick ass rock there. Covered with sand mostly but it does get exposed. If it does the sign gets put on the beach to watch out for it.

I have the best story for the naming of a surf spot somewhere on the southern half of oz. It's called Mullalong. All characters will be protected as will the break however the story is true as I type.

One day the people who actually discovered this break rocked up (only about 20 years ago)(4wd trip) and forgot their Mul, One said to the other, did you bring the Mul along? no **** man, forgot it, the break then become known as Mullalong, and as it is in the outback it started to be thought that Mullalong is Aboriginal and now it is actually on a local Map as Mullalong, so true and so funny.

We named a spot "Blue moons" about 17 years ago at my local, cause it hardly ever breaks... I have been away from the area for the last 10 years and went back on a holiday last year and the local kids were still calling it "blue moons" I guess some names do stick!

Good stuff, there are some real funny, witty, ironic and relevant names coming across. My friends and I were on a road trip from Melbourne to the Gold Coast stopping and surfing every spot we could. During that trip we came up with some funny names. I remember one of them was called "Pickels Mistake" cause thats the nick name of my friend called Michael and he went for coffee with his girlfriend when we went surfing at this reef break south of sydey and it was all time. He never hears the end of it. When he is around I start naming other breaks "pickels mistake" just to hit a nerve. Mad mans was probably one of the hard corest places Ive surfed on the east coast and you do have to be slightly mad to surf it. Another random but funny to us name was " J to the R. O. C" Who knows where that came from, probaly after one too many cold and hot ones. Phillip Island, one the bays we named Wine Bay after we had heaps of red wine the night before we surfed it. Keep them coming...............

G day, I think its the right of the dudes who find a wave to name it but thats not to say you can't put a spin on the name if you like. I name the new banks at my local every season.
