Hi,

I'm a 40 year old Sydney guy (weight 74 kg) looking to get back into surfing after a long lay-off.

I'm looking to buy a mini malibu board and am after some professional advice:

* what is the best size mini mal you would recommend for general use?
* what should i look for in a board (materials and design etc)?
* what should i be on guard against?
* what brand of mini mal would you recommend as the best?

Hope you can help me out of the dark,

regards,

Scott

Scott, welcome back to the good life!!!
I would suggest lookin for a board in the 7'6" range. Try around 20" wide and 2.5"-3" thick "ISH". I would nt worry too much about shapers at this stage rather the price seen as its been a while. Hope this gets you in the ball park and out there again bro- enjoy, Kearnsy!

Im another 36 Yr old 82kg guy that has not surfed since I was 14. I bought a $500 mini mal (new) and found that it feels like a sinker. It is a "surfeco" 7'10 21"wide by 2 13/16 thick. I have no idea what foam is used and whether there is a difference in foam bouyancy?
The good pts: It was cheap compared to some other boards.
I like the look of it. It is light. It came with leg rope, grip, board bag etc,
THe bad points, It is really hard to paddle compared to the other longer mals (around the 9ft plus) that I have seen in the surf.
I guess try before you buy. I wish I had done that I probable would have gone for a more bouyant board. I think they are around $1200 new and use a different foam core??? Does anyone no?
Regardless of the board I am enjoying being back in the surf. Good Luck.
