So there he is, boasting the greatness that is the almost completed Scarborough beach redevelopment.
"The best beach in the world, better than Bondi Beach", he states!
Enjoyed a celebratory drink with the engineers from up on high, no doubt, but has he actually had a walk around? I'd say not.
From an end user's perspective, I'd say they've made some awful decisions in design of both the basic infrastructure and landscaping.

Oh, and Bondi has fun looking waves.

The bloke's a plum, hasn't spent a day at a beach in his life.

He's also throwing his support behind the Scarborough 'twin towers' project - a precinct of some 400-odd apartments, 200-odd hotel rooms, a convention center and a shopping/retail precinct.

I guess he's never driven along West Coast Highway at peak hour or at the weekend and wondered how the area will accommodate all the extra traffic.

West Coast carpark!!!

they need to somehow sink the main road like a tunnel and/or go under the hill and make the main intersection zone a no thru way for a start, with only local traffic or pedestrians (but don't dare take away anymore parking)

that twin towers thing will be a debacle...

the traffic is becoming worse sadly.
they should have shut access to scarborough beach and scarb beach road from west coast hwy and put al the parking at contacios development and had overpasses for pedestrians. keep the traffic flowing and more parking and more room for development. how can they cock this up?
look there are some good things and bad things bout the redevelopment.
I would have thought a few walk thru's before opening would clearly identify issues and easy fixes. maybe they just wait for an accident.
Parking - nightmare, the roads are wrong, it gridlocks and there is just not enough parking. somehow we winged a park but had to hold up a long line as the parents were fighting with toddlers in their car seat (yep know that problem).
The whale park is awesome but effing dangerous, concrete structure, i saw multiple kids smack their heads, including my daughter who ended up with a decent egg and i got one too! some cool things tho and kids liked it.
THe paths are nice and wide, tick.
the bowl is insane, deepest i have ever imagined. large area taken for a small intake of people but anyhow, guess it will hold some sick comps.
the skate park is a bit of a nightmare, obsticles all so close together and then stairs leading to ob city and road makes the skate park appear to also be a walk thru to get to shops. i saw this with an old lady, just walked casually thru the middle of the park to get up steps and about 5 guys on skateboards had to jump off and kick boards to not take her out, then the boards took other kids out, one including my daughter. arghh.
the climbing wall is pretty cool.
the hill makes sense now, views cool.
no decent coffee shops yet
no decent take out food yet
waves still puss
mcgowan you do not deserve to open this or be a part of it, back to rockingham with you.

kn gridlock
I reckon they should elevate West Coast Hwy over Scarb Beach Rd, to keep the traffic moving north south. Then local traffic along scarb beach rd under the elevated road only. Then if you want to get from Scarb Rd to West Coast Hwy you would do it north or south of Scarb Rd. It would open the place up for more foot traffic and a better design outcome.

Sure there would be a lot of other issues but they could work around this. Deleting the proposed road they had through the dunes probably caused half the issues they have now with traffic.

I think there are long term plans to sink that part of west coast highway and do a northbridge style tunnel. It's a way off though. The bowl is sick, an hour disappeared quickly yesterday watching. The climbing wall is a bit disappointing, apparently they can't place holds on the curved part of the wall, so bad planning there. It'll be interesting to see how the next stage of development goes (north and south 'hubs') which will be shops/cafes/restaurants. I'm totally against the scale of the twin towers - I'd even be happy with something in the ballpark of 20 stories, but 38 is ridiculous

Scarbs is looking good again The developement functions well with great wide paths fantastic skate park and the pubs are full again. Plenty of stuff could be better but I spose they did what they could with the cash they had.

A nice addition would be the reef I think it's a bargain at 16 mil.

would be good if the two towers gets up at 47 stories apparently it's approved to 33 however if goes the full height it would halt other developments in the area. I think there is over 400 parking spots and a walk over bridge as well.
