Has anyone bought or riden a mal from M8R8.com, Konzo - they are the cheap Chinese boards I know but are they ok to ride?

I bought a 9'6" epoxy mal from them last April. In short, it was a bargain! It is really well made and surfs really well. The rocker in the nose is a bit flatter than I would have used if I did a custom one. The fins are copies of fcs fins and have more flex than fcs. I expected to get a bagging from my mates who will only ride the top of the range boards, but they were all amazed at the quality and had nothing bad to say.

Service from M8R8 was good - the board arrived in Perth 3 days after I paid for it.

I got a 6 foot twin fish from M8R8 and its the best board.
I looked around for the exact board in the shops only to see price tags of $699
I paid $285 plus $50 postage. It was bubble wrapped and handled with care and also only took 3 days to get it.
My next board I will definately buy from M8R8 again.

Greenie,

saw your post re M8 boards.

Need a cheap epxy for kiting - don't think $1000 for a kite specific board will make much difference.

I can find mals on Ebay, but couldn't see any short boards.

Any clues?

Cheers

I just had a look at the M8R8 shop and looks as if he is only selling longboards?
I sent him an email

Just got the 8ft M8R8 board - delivered in 3 days and looks great - all at a cost of $350. Went to star surf - where do you get the $399? You gotta be kidding me! Yes you can go wrong. The epoxy boards in star are twice the price and made in the same place.

i went direct and emailed them - bought two so the postage was halved ans they gave me a deal - better than messing around with ebay
I sent tp the email I think its [email protected] then one of the girls helps out
Delivery was really quick
I havent riden the board yet but its just a big 8 ft mal - not alot of technology in it - i have a short board for that. It looks good.
I will let you knopw if I get a wave today on it but it looks fine

Hey Beachboy,

Usally ride a custom glass 9'3" but the board was claimed by a Yal sneeker in Winter. Is the 9'6" epoxy flappy in offshore conds eg bigger Yal, Bears. Was thinking about getting one but have seen a few lads having trouble with them.
Cheers
Matt.

Hey Guys, have also bought a couple of awsome boards from Sideways for $350. Here's their link www.sidewaysboardsports.com.au They are aussie owned and the blanks are blown on the gold coast and shaped there. They are glassed o.s. but they use FGI Resin. No fake FCS fins either. I bought an awsome little fish it goes like a rocket. They seem to really be establishing a name on the Sunny Coast now. My dad just bought a longboard off them as well and he's loving it. Best thing is, they are cheap as $600 for a longboard, and the shape is sick as well.

My mate was just talking about them today so thanks for all the feedback. I just bought a 6'0 board through Dinosaur deals which i found on dealsdirect.com. Never had a board that short but got a ****en great barrel early this morning so pretty wrapped. Cost $200 plus $50 delivery, same deal as M8R8 regarding rocker and fins. Put some Taj deck grip on, new leash no one is the wiser...

Guess that's personal choice, I think the M8R8 designs are terrible, they are thin in the rails and the colours are awful & they always do the same sprays. At least Sideways mix it up. But that's when everyone is different.

You are all kidding me, support the Aussie made surfboard industry, its not always about saving a few bucks...talk to a shaper and get a quality stick made for you and you might even help support a struggling Aussie shaper who has a family to feed. Stuff the cheap and nasty overseas imports....Do you ever see really good surfers riding the chinese imports ? why not then ? each to their own but definitely not for me....

Actually yes, all the pro's who surf for McTavish, Rusty, Al Merick, Webber, Surftech, Toughlite... blah blah blah.... and all the rest of the boards that are going o.s to be made, that's including hawaiian shapers that are trying to keep it under raps but have actually been seen in asia doing business. Get with the times and step up ur business skills or u will be left behind still winging that u have mouths to feed instead of getting off ur buts and having a go...u've had it too good for too long, there are plenty of other ways to make an income... laying bricks pays well and u don't need a degree.... Remember the grandparents who refused to use computers? They wouldn't be doing to well in this day and age without them. So instead of complaining all the time and using the same old "poor me" line....get out there and have a crack urselves!

if you think the pros are riding boards made in asia.. get real they are working with the actual shaper whos board they ride.. ie slater gets proper shaped board from the factory.. its common sense.. its only the public that buys the off the rack el cheapo shapes. Al merricks boards might be shaped on the cheap somewhere in asia.. I have no idea but surfing has nothing to do with business skills as you are trying to say, its wise to find a shaper who you have time for and has time for you and get a board shaped, and again and again till he/she shapes one which is as close to perfect for you as possible. couple of suggestions.. DA lewy or Aido from albany.. its easy to get caught up in marketing trends.. I personally have done that and it didnt help my surfing at all, my next board will be from a shaper who I can talk to and who will listen to what I want, deliver and know the surf breaks which I want the board to perform at.
