Regardless of what you ride, number 1 rule should always be the fitness and ability to swim at least enough to get yourself out of trouble unassisted. If your relying on a goonie bag to save your arse you probably shouldn't be there in the first place

Was thinking the same. Wouldn't be thrilled being strapped to a paddle with 30 cm of string flinging around in big surf behind me.
