Surely it depends on your strength and the exercises you want to do.
I don't think kettlebells or any other weight training is going to magically help with surfing except from having a higher base fitness.
Fwiw I use a barbell and do clean and jerks. Not specifically for surfing, just to stay strong ... ish. And I'm not going to advise how much weight people should lift or how they train.

As per Legion's comment - no one can advise you on the weight to use - other than to say use a weight that you find 'hard' but yet allows you to maintain proper form and technique so as not to injure yourself.
I do some moderate weight training for 30min twice a week and I feel it definitely help with paddling strength (and overall fitness).

I'm not a fan of kettle bell training. Personally I find it puts presure on the lower back and has the ability to do more damge than good.

I'd advise you get some coaching on how to utilise the kettle bells correctly
Done properly it's a good way to increase core strength/lower back
However if done incorrectly you could do yourself an injury and find yourself out of the water.
