This arvo I went to The Spot to ride my new pride and joy for the 3rd time. I was absolutely in heaven with head high sets, some smokin' barrels and lip smackin' tail slides. Gotta love the retro fish twinnie
With 25/30 blokes out it was pretty crowded but I just sat on the inside and was patient for my turn which wasnt that long between them as it was consistant. During this time a knee boarder had snaked and dropped in on me a handleful of times which I just shrugged it off. Then on another snake attempt he took off underneath me (He was paddling infront of me but slightly closer to the peak) and I rode over top of him hitting his flipper which ripped the FCS plugs clean outta the board and luckily wedged the fin into the board so I was able to save it. They are 100 buck MR twin fins.
Can you imagine how angry this made me? I asked him for his details so I could get him to pay for the repair but all I got was a laugh.
To the **** knuckle knob jockey knee boarder... **** YOU![}:)]

Ive added a diagram to try and explain the situation of inside snaking.
Would I be right in saying this is not good karma to practice this act of stealing waves?

sounds like the spot hasnt changed much.
Sorry to hear about your incident but with that sort of crowd it can be expected to have some wave hogs in the line up.
Normally person closest to the peak has priority, long as there to their feet about first. This means everyone is paddling further and further inside or snaking to get closest to the inside taking off when its crowded.

It was good surf yesterday though all over the west coast, the spot saturday morning is never a good option for crowds. I use to go there and 30min before sun up there were usually 20 people in the carpark frothing at the mouth.

I have sworn from this day on that I will never go to The Spot on a weekend again. I only went yesturday because I new it would be goin' off and went the arvo option as the swell seemed bigger then. Plus the footy was on so I figured everyone would be watching the footy. Boy was I wrong

I used to think when the eagles were playing there would be less crew in the water but doesnt sound like that has held the masses back.

I cant remember but was it 1991 when the eagles made the first grand final? I got my dad to take me and a mate to The Spot when the game was on and there was only one other bloke in the water
I remeber it was offshore and small waves but we were stoked

Yeh stuff em Greenroom! Damn kneeboarders/!
I've been surfing the area verry regulally for about 6 years now and have only surfed the place a handfull of times for this verry reason!
There's heaps of better waves around and Im not talkin about durrs which can be rather the same at times mate.
After growin up on the goldie and dealing with this crap on a daily basis I refuse to put myself in any situation which you described!
Why? because thats just not what surfings about for me and I know the impact that it has as I can see and hear from ur post!!!
Dude If ya ever want to go retro and hit some real waves in the area I'd be more than happy to put the bellbottom wettie on for a coupla hours and get back to basics- Clean , uncrouded, racey walls within 20k's of the rat race of the snot. sorry the spot!

getting waves at the spot is ezzy even on a crowed day
you just need to sit in the rite spot

Sorry Spot1 I dont think you understood the situation?
I wasnt down the line. I was 10m back from the drop-inner-er. I wasnt closest to the peak but I was up on my feet first.
Anyway... I still think its a bad practise.

Hey Kearns Im hell keen. I do know of a few other places in the area other than The Spot and Derrs but they never seem to be as good? Personally I think that The Spot is the best wave around Perth. The crowds just ruin the vibe Send me a PM

the surfer on the inside always has right away no matter who stands first, otherwise all the shoulder bunny would have right of way as i say surfers, so yes you had right of way as no SURFERS were inside you

Not quite sure I agree with the order of skill level with knee boarders being one up from boogers, it's actually quite a bit harder than it looks. I have been kneeboarding for nearly 20 years around Perth and the world and have found that a bit of respect for everyone in the water goes a long way even to the point where waves are given as a friendly gesture in some cases (not often in Perth though). The kneeboarder that snaked you has been doing that for years but he pails in comparison to the morons that can be found at Trigg on a half descent day that stand up, lie down, sit and paddle barges and generally have no clue. With boards @ $700 plus no one needs their gear wrecked by idiots.

All these rules are sweet and in a perfect world would be ideal, but I think courtesy has a big part to play.

I'm pretty sure everyone has been out at some reefy, at least once, with some blow-in on a 10ft mal that just keeps nailing every single wave 30m further out that anyone else and you let him go because of the rule "he was on first" and everytime he's got one and is paddling back out your eyes light up because this smoking set rolls through, you paddle for it and then see this ****n massive bit of fibreglass infront of you becasue the bloke if trying to get his houseboat of a board out the back straight through the line up, just to pick off every other wave as soon as he can

Just can really bring everyones mood down in the water, share a few?
