Hitting Bali early October for a week. Is it possible to island hop east to sambuwa and or is it worth it in a week time frame ?? Suggestions?

Wouldn't bother mate. Leave it for a trip when you've got way more time. Just enjoy Bali and maybe go check out Lembo.

Never been to Lombok for a surf, but October is basically the end of the real good surf in Lombok, from what what I've heard. This is simply due to the wind changing to a Northerly (I think) for about a third of the year over summer.

I'm sure someone here knows more.

best to fly to Bima in sunbawa on merpati and get the the bemo down to Hu'u (lakey etc) overland (and sea) is good fun in indo if you have the time and you love the smell of diesel fumes in the morning ,..afternoon and night!!
In that time frame i would be inclined to go to G-land(still the best value surf camp) for 4-5 days $300-$400 and you know if there is no swell at g-land everywhere is flat also...
.use the high speed boat 2-3 hours and $100 US either way as opposed to 12 -14hours overland
or get in touch your inner "soul surfer " and go to Nusa Lembongan from Sanur for a few days

I drove past the new airport in Feb this year. Looked near completion. Then I was told that a 747 did a test landing on the new runway and ripped up the whole runway. The concrete standards over there are shocking, go figure. So then the story continues - they have to rip up all of the surfaces and re-do them. So yes, it will be ready in another 100 years, which I'm glad for.

Eppo, don't bother with Sumbawa, there are no waves there

If you never go, you'll never know. 9-12 hours from Bali to West Sumbawa, Or you could take the seaplane - 45min trip. US$5000

Reminds me of a time when i got back to Bali in early Oct from some other islands, stopped in Sanur for a extra week because there was some waves, wind was offshore. Stayed at the old museum just over the road from where the the boats leave for Lembongan..out of the way and great people.. long righthander out the front, jumped on the boat over to Lembongan a couple times.
Just sayin.
