Hi Guys
In light of the level 4 travel ban we have canceled our surf trip to Lombok.
The hotel we are staying has a 50% cancellation fee up to 14 days prior to arrival.
Unfortunately they are not honoring this policy.
Has anyone come across this issue

Yes and no
did you book direct ?
Is it more than 14 days out ? If no and yes than you should get 50% back
If yes and yes than you should but you won't,
if you booked through a flight centre or the like for flights and holidays you can take it up direct with them and in 90% plus cases they will refund or give credit at least, that's what you get for Ayung the extra 10-20%

If your hotel was in Australia and outside of 14 days you would get your 50% back.

Being indo whilst you should get it back you won't especially if you booked direct, it may be worth trying the angle of getting credit for next year.

What most hotel policies especially bigger bigger ones have is force majour where an earthquake or torrential rain or the like is basically bad luck and you pay anyway even if you cannot get there, however a pandemic is something not seen for a long time so I doubt they are actually covered for it but extracting your money back may be a lengthy painful non result.... Saying you want credit for a year from now might work, they are likely going to keep your cash anyway even if outside policy and booked direct

Just keep emailing them calling them out on honouring their obligations etc then mention that you were going to rebook for following year but now have doubts followed by threat of outing them on multiple social media platforms and your local boardriding clubs then lastly that you are going to seek legal action. Make sure you do it in an approachable manner and you'll get results.Paitence, consistency ,quantity and content of emails will get to them in the end.
Did it myself and went through all the phases and it worked after, 6 weeks had the cash and DID rebook with them

Thanks guy's we are 6 wks out so well is side the 14 day policy. Booked direct to eliminate any issues like this. They have offered a 12 month voucher but concerned how long this pandemic will go for especially in Indo & whether they will still be in business after this Is over as they are a very small hotel in a remote area. Yes I agree, Social media could be used as a last resort to promote this hotel

i don't know your situation fester, but i hope people don't start stooping to this - there is going to be pain in many countries the likes of which we probably haven't ever seen. tryign to destroy their reputation online in unprecendented times seems a bit spiteful.

I like the credit or voucher approach, and if it doesn't improve within 12 months, c'est la vie to your $ and wish them the best as they will probably still be on teh brink of closing doors, and we will probably be doing fundraisers to help our indo friends and others by the end of all this... fingers crossed it is only for 6 months though

Just to clear things up, my problem was nothing to do with the present situation regards to corona and advice given merely a way of swaying them to honour their obligations but Ill name and shame if its a blatant rip off and warranted, too easy to take the money and shut the door

We cancelled Bali accomodation 4 weeks out - half money refunded no questions asked .

Cancelled a cruise and flights same time - were given credits - reckon with no cash flow they are thinking paying out refunds might be enough to send them over the edge . Hoping it all returns to normal soon .

I booked at a nicer hotel in Bali for some 8 or 9 months ago - then ended up having a shoulder recon. Could have still gone, but the trip was for surfing, so I asked them to defer the trip as I had paid in full. Unfortunately it was a sweet deal on one of those no cancellations no exchange terms... anyway, with some polite emails and my surgeon's report they were good enough to push the dates out 12 months for me.

I'll ask once for a Convid-19 deferment but if they don't then I probably won't chase it too hard - will see if Visa will refund it.

As I have already paid Jetstar twice I will be trying harder to get a credit for that!

Clearly not following their T&C's

To top it off the owner is a former Vice President of Deutsche Bank,So I'm sure he's struggling
Due to Indo shutting its borders we should be getting a full refund.
