Ok, im goin to indonesia on april 3 for a month icluding a week on a surf charter boat to lombok and sumbawa.
Just been thinkin bout my travel quiver.

I have 4 boards

5 11 x 18.5 x 2 3/8 with little rocker, tail flies and swallow tail ( i use as semi fish for small stuff here)

5 10 x 17 7/8 x 2 1/8 standard high performance shorty with 6 ounce glass and swallow tail, i use here anywere up to 3 or 4 ft

6 1 x 18 x 2 standard high perfomance shorty with rounded tail

6 2 x 18 1/16 x 2 1/16 with double to single concave, rounded pin tail and carbon fibre rails (my favourite board)

and i have borrowed a board of a friend to take to indo as a gun a 6 5 x 19 x 2 1/2.

Up until recently i was thinking of taking 4, my 5 10, 6 1, 6 2 and 6 5 but after discussion with friends i have narrowed it down to 3, reluctantly eliminating my 5 10.

The reason i have decided on 3 being that i have been told that if you take anymore than three boards, a customs fee or even fine or bribe can result, and can get quite hefty.
Wat you guys think?

Oh I made the same mistake with a 6,8 simon (I hope yours is ok) not riding it before going mine was garbage, I think it had too much volume for me. Try and ride at all costs.

I haven't decided whether I'll take two or three boards over this year. One consideration is whether you'll be hiring a motorbike and how many boards you can fit into the side rack. I reckon you'd struggle to get more than two in, so it could be a pain when you are moving from place to place.

I'd like to hear from anyone if they have managed to fit three board in a bike rack.

Of course, you could hire a cheap car which makes it all easier and is only a few bucks more per day and a hell of allot safer.

Anyone had any experience with buying boards in Java and Sumatra? I guess there are surf shops in Padang and around West Java and there are always second hand boards wherever surfers are hangin out

Bring your standard allround shortboard and a semi gun.

Definitely try that semi gun before going!!! You wouldnt wanna be out in solid surf and having a board you hate!

Screw the fish. When it's tiny the waves are still good so your allround board would work.
If it's not good enough for that that its not worth surfing for the day..

Bowlsy, interested to hear what you think of Lombok. Heading over in a few months and staying in Kuta. Flying from Bali to Lombok then down to the soth east part of the island. Not the desert point type so Im interested to see where the less intense spots are like. Enjoy

I have been going to indo for the last 35 years and have a fail safe formular for deciding your quiver....forget everything else....think small...medium...large...no backups, if you break one you just have to put up with the one next to it...gone are the days of hauling a heap of boards with you...they murder you for overweight, then customs bend you over when you get there.

dunno doggie, they seem to change with the wind...the indo's...I have never taken less than three and never been hit...used to take a heap and tell em two belong to the wife, two belong two the baby,...another trick is...and I can't prove it , but it's allways worked for me...get the porters to carry your stuff it will only cost you five bucks or so,and I always seem to go through unscathed...don't think it worked for Corby though.
