Hi all,
I’ve been SUPing for a few months now and having a ball. Never surfed prior to buying the SUP, and things are progressing slowly but surely.

Once on a wave I’m pretty stoked with the improvement. The drama is when I miss time a wave and get caught inside, I nearly always end up walking off the back of the board when the next wave breaks early

.
1 - I’ve tried to adopt the normal surfing stance with my weight forward to compensate the force of the wave.
2 - Instead of aiming the board straight in, I’ve tried to angle the board along the wave bit but no luck.
3- Paddled like hell to get more speed before it hits, still out the back I go.
The only way I’ve been able to avoid the walk of shame out the back is adopt the kneeing position until I get the chance to stand up.
What the hell aim I doing wrong??????
BTW, just got my 11’2” stary last weekend. It’s like chalk and cheese compared to my 12’6’.
Very nimble, just like starting all over again.
