I know a few guys have had the Timber tech boards. Would you recommend them for the durability or are they over rated?

Looking at a Spitfire and wanting to work out which way to go. I have been happy with my FST and the Helium is meant to be a step up in build strength, but really have and had my eye on the TT for some time..

Anyone with Spitfire experience would be cool to hear your thoughts also..

I've ridden a 6' spitfire RF in head height fattish waves & really enjoyed it. Its a board I'd like in the quiver also, although there are just so many similar options these days I'd probably go a scifi if I was spending that much money on a board. One thing I like about the SF is the drop down rail, same as the sadly discontinued Hellfire. Wish more boards had that feature...I think the rocker would be a bit flat for your local, you would have to go shorter than you might think. Like 5'8 or 5'10. But ultimately I reckon you could choose a more suitable shape...for winter when the sands away, summer would be fine with a 6 or 6'2 if you really want one. But you have had the hellfire which is also modelled from the dom, just more refined & suited to your local. If that wasn't quite right for there, the SF certainly won't be either....bottom line opinion. Buy it if you can get a good second hand deal, otherwise your money could be more wisely spent.

Thanks Mick, Actually the Hellfire was possibly one of my fav's. I did enjoy the Dom also but just wanted more size, IE paddle these days (put on some more weight and don't paddle as often so paddle unfit) and figured the Spitfire had that pulled in tail like the Hellfire. I have been suggested to look at a Uni brow also. The Sci fi looks great, but the construction is too light For my liking, same as my EVo..

I have a firewire spitfire timbertek. I've had it for at least 3 years now. I scrapped all the old wax of about 6 months ago and it looked brand new. I tend to leave heal indentations on all my boards, but this barely had any compressions in the deck at all. Love it. Planning on getting a timbertek sub-moon in the next year.

Thanks for that, how do you feel it surfs? I have been told by many that their too stiff and have little response.

I didn't mind my FST Dominator, its held up well except for yellowing. I think that could be the heat in the car though..

Never surfed a spitfire but in terms of the construction I just replaced my groveller board - timber deck Baked Potato with a helium Chum Lee, the timber deck looks cool if your into the timber look and is strong, I even used it as a kite board in light winds/ small waves and not a single dent, not even a pressure ding on. However once you pick up a helium board and see how light it is you won't want to use anything else, also it feels super responsive on a wave, had about 5 surfs on it so far and it still looks brand new.

Thanks for that, i think i have decided to go the Helium, but still like the TT. DO you think you could feel the difference in the stiffness of the Timber tech

I know ttk has a helium board...lobes it more than anything. He will get rid of his evo to get a helium version.

Said the helium hates wind and bumps

I've had and still have a FST board and am happy with its durability. Id assume the Helium would feel the same as a FST? I have slowly had all the FW tech but thought the TT looks the goods for strength. Now though, just wondering about flex and ride of a TT. I rode my Evo the other day and it really did feel nice under foot, (especially after being of it for a few months). Honestly I'm so over trying to figure this stuff out, i think ill just give up

Its just annoying spending a grand on a board, it then falling apart in 6 months..Especially when you invest in having a Rpela shark device fitted, you want it to last..
