Hate the damn things! Had a great surf with a mate last Wednesday, called to say g'day on Friday and spoke with his wife who was on the way to RPH after he ended up under a car

****ed shoulder, multiple fractures all over, punctured lung, internal bleeding etc etc.

Surgery over the weekend to keep him going by the sounds of it and no doubt many more over the coming months

****ing hate motorbikes.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.
I love motorbikes but refuse to own one...especially in Perth.

Poor bugger.

Yeah ^^^ +1

Sorry to hear about that... hope he makes a full recovery. He'll need to be patient - it'll take a while.

Half glass full - in some respects he's lucky. If he takes that outlook and does all that the Dr's tell him he'll have the best chance of getting back to normal...

All the best.

I'm forbidden from getting a motorbike as I've lost an uncle to a tragic accident. My regards and I wish your mate a swift recovery too and may the rehab be smooth and get him back on a board.

Oh and fingers crossed this thread doesn't turn into a biker vs driver 5hitstorm

He's gonna be super bummed for a while mate, but hopefully like GPA said, he can look at it from a positive angle; which of course is hard when you're in a hospital getting plaster applied to your limbs.

But:
He's still alive.
It may prompt him to stop riding, which may keep him alive.
We're coming into summer which means less waves, so maybe good timing...if there is such a thing.
He's probably not going to have to shout a round for a while.
TLC from the wifey
Inevitable new found appreciate for life.
...and think about how bloody good he'll feel getting back in the salt.
Oh...and yeah, once again, he's still alive. So often these accidents turn out far worse.

Anyhoo...crash was on Friday? How's the internal injuries going?

EDIT: ...oh and be a good mate...make sure you tell him every sesh you've had was onshore, lumpy and crowded with esky lidders and goatboats.

Moto gp rider Colin Edwards said in a interview Agee years ago, he didn't have a bike license and wouldn't get one because its to dangerous! Now that's saying something.

Friday Morning coming down Marmion Ave a bike had gone into the side of a car crossing roundabout. (that's what it looked like to me) looked real bad..

Two weeks ago was pulling out from work and a guy on a gixer was coming down the hill going maybe double plus the limit(because he could), panicked when he saw me and stood it up, locked it up and skidded in what seemed like slow mow for about 600meters very lucky to walk away with only a broken collar bone.

Hope your mate is all okay..

Being a long-time surfer and rider of motorcycles,I can relate to both sports as they require balance,co-ordination and adrenalin when powering into a turn and only you know as they say,how great that is.
As a cage-driver(car),I am mindful of all road users and respect everyone who abides by the road-rules.Unfortunately, I constantly see cagers running red-lights,speeding and road-rage meaning more carnage on our roads and injuries to my fellow bros who ride motorbikes.
Go easy and stay safe.

Great...I knew it was only a matter of time before someone said something silly.

Luckiest mother****er that has ever walked the face of the earth Thommo. They lost him three times, once under the car-brought back by a nurse at the scene, once in the ambo on the way to RPH-brought back by the ambos and again a coupla days later when his spleen ruptured- saved by a quick thinking nurse again. Went through 19 quarts(18ishLts)of blood during surgery. He ended up with a punctured lung, a ****ed wrist and lost his spleen. Discharged last Friday and is back up and walking about the place going stir crazy.
Like I said luckiest mother alive.

****ing oath he's lucky.
My sister was run over by a drunk driver when she was 11.
3 months in a coma and 12 months in and out of hospital.

For your mate to be up and about, so to speak...unbelievable.

Glad to hear that he is on the mend... Very lucky indeed - something he needs to remember when the aches and pains start...
