I caddied for Vetau(spelling) David in the 1990 Margaret River masters. i was ****ting my pants as a 17yrs old on a 8foot gun that was so thick and wide it was like a mal. What made things worse was he had snapped it's leggie. So there i am sitting wide and watching all these pro ripping in tripple head high waves. After each wave poto would ask how am i doing? I just kept saying your ripping. The problem was that the judges thought TCarroll and Barton Lynch was ripping even more. Poto was pretty pissed off when the results were read put.
i got cleaned up by a rouge close out that shut the whole bay down and made the horizon go black. It was not fun.
You are probably wondering how I got to be a caddy. Well i was a clubbie back then and we would do the water safety each year (that was until Jet Ski's came on the scene). I remember that year was huge and guys were snapping boards and leggies every heat. Caddies were in short supply and most of the local crew were lending out their 8'0" guns to the highest bidders.

NOTE: i dont have a VCR either, jsut thought i would share my brush with a pro story.

I was inspired by Bender - no VCR either. Martin Potter once whacked me in the back and told me to spit it out whilst paddling out in Gissy. I was extermely hungover and was coughing my guts out.

Surfed with Layne Beachley in Feb this year, cool chick and is a bit of a hottie up close

and you are obviously not aware of the Layne Beachley curse that has been following me for over 20 years,suffice to say i can relate a number of bad luck incidents(losing luggage, hitting the reef,catching tropical diseases etc) to Layne Beachley just being on the same island or general vicinity..... not enough room here to document all of them! i have my own house full of accumulated sheet!!

seeing you were giving away more than a few witty remarks ,although the closest most of us seabreezers come to a a good punch is at a work Xmas party and think that it tastes better with more lemonade and passion fruit !!

Was sat on the headland in Maui one morning

Laird Hamilton drove up in his 9 foot high pick-up truck, gets out and walks off for a look

I go have a look in the back of his truck.

I have to stand on his tyre and pull myself up to peer over the tray.

In the back is a collection of boards and other strange looking equipment

Mr Hamilton comes back and sees me stood on his tyre peering over the back into his truck

I look at him and say "don't you lock that up, I could have stolen something"

He looks at me, smiles and says "no you couldn't"

I look at his bicep, it is larger than my waist and realise he was right.
