There is a lot of new products come into market lately. Keen to hear peoples experiences with them?? I am currently considering a Firewire Almond Butter (timber tech) or an EVO in LFT.

Just a note I already own a number of custom boards shaped by local shapers. The epoxy pop out boards are useful part of a quiver in my opinion.

I've had a few, mostly firewire but also a couple of "Placebo" brand boards when I was in NZ, tufflight construction or something. Really good for travel but I managed to break one at El Hueco in Peru. Not sure if they're the same as pop outs?

I have a firewire alternator FST that is absolute magic in GOOD waves, actually the one in my avatar. I will keep that until it loses its spring, but I never use it in Perth- usually only in the tropics.

But I always go back to PU boards.

Personally, I would not get an LFT. They don't seem as durable for the performance gains they offer. Can anyone else comment on that?

Hey Jb how did the board surf?? Interesting design, durability definitely an issue.

I've had my lft Evo 8months, is my go to board and is still like new (I think, under a ton of wax). I guess it depends how hardcore you are. I'm a lightweight
im going to look into helium tech kiteboard Evo for surfing. As strong as FST but light...

I wouldn't call Firewire's pop outs, the construction process is not that much different to how most boards, foam is shaped and board is glassed (there is no mould)

I've had about ten Firewire boards, some have been average boards, and some I've loved, and one id call a magic board.

Ive also had many of their constructions IMHO.

FST= Close to bullet proof easily the most durable boards I've ever had, performance wise i like the feel it's different to a PU/PE board feel but not that different, not like a surf tech type construction.

Timber tek= Similar in durability to FST maybe little less durable, also similar in feel and weight to FST.

LFT= is lighter than both FST and Timber tek like a very light PU/PE board surf wise IMO they feel almost the same as a light glassed PU/PE board, but yeah they don't have anywhere near the durability of FST and Timber tek.

The reason being FST and Timber Tek are composite epoxy construction, while FST is more like a standard constructed board just instead of Poly foam and PE resin they use EPS foam with Epoxy resin.

Haven't had the new Helium construction yet, but I'm curious and it sounds good, i like the fact the decks are made to sink a little as thats about the only thing i dont like about FST and Timber Tek you never get foot wells as the deck doesn't sink.

BTW. They have a pretty good run down of their tech on their website

The Helium Tech (kite) Evo,s have just come out, picked mine up yesterday. The biggest size in kite construction is 5'3 27.4L - 2.8kg so still heavier than a LFT Evo,s but should be way stronger.
