Yeh Doggie, we were anchored up at Thunders at the time watching a movie when the boat started to shake through the anchor chain, the captain was up top having a Kip and came running down asking if we had felt that, we all looked around for a while with the captain ready to haul ass into deeper water but because we were near a mobile tower the owner got word that it was on the mainland at Padang and was no threat to us and luckily the Indo crew on board also got word that their families were safe so it was business as usual until we got back to Padang, How about you being on a land camp?
We really got shaken, I think it happened around 4.15pm. I had just come in from surfing out the front at Hide a ways and was reading a book on the first floor landing of the beach hut. It started small but got really intense. We couldnt stand as the island was moving about a meter side to side.
When we got to the island the camp had a meeting to discuss the evacuation plan so we were all ready with passports ect in water proof bags ect.
We evacuated the island in one of the boats.
Dunno if you remember that night but it was raining with about 20-30kn blowing.
MV Adiction was anchored in out bay and came over to keep an eye on us so we, the surfers had to swim to the Adiction as the Indo crew were sh!tting them selves because they cant swim.
Tbh I was crapping myself as well, I was just waiting for the wall of water to come from nowhere but it never came.
As you said we had no dammage ect so for the next 5 days we just kept surfing until we had to go back to Padang. We got airlifted out by the Airforce in a Hercules to Jakarta.
Great trip you couldnt pay for adventure like that
