Hey Guys

Looking for some feedback on guys that have been on a catamaran boat trip in Mentawi.

Opinions on the best boats?

Did additional cruising speed help?

Crew etc.

I am looking to go on a trip with a crew of mates and I am organising so pressure to deliver is on.

Thanks

boat are great for variety bobo....but.....with an imminent swell i had to almost pull a fletcher christian on a boat in the nineties to get the guys(no of whom i knew) on the boat to leave Maui (3-4 foot and fun ) in lombok to go onto desert point (4-6 foot and well, flawless ) cost me a few rupiah in the back pocket of the indo captain and crew as well as after a vote no-one else wanted to leave Maui...but suddenly weather and current became an issue
for pure surfing time and comfort the land based resorts in the mentawaii are pretty good have a look at wavepark or kandui or pitstop in the playgrounds area all good and a great variety of waves ,pretty hard to beat

Hey Prawn

we are a bunch of mates so all guys pretty set on a boat trip.
Being mates is not always a guarentee that we all want the same thing, but hopefully will help

I mostly wanted to know if a faster boat is going to be worth extra for a comfy ride and also easy access to a range of spots?

If i was heading there myself would def go on a land based camp.

Hi Bobjaan, Myself and a mate went on a fantastic catamaran the TENGIRRI in Sept 09, the boat was fast and stable at anchor which can make a big difference if your not a seasoned boat person. After watching other boats that were anchored up near us like the Pelagic, the Tengirri looked way more comfortable. Because of this we are going on another catamaran called the Bohemian in Northern Sumatra this year.

Yeh Doggie, we were anchored up at Thunders at the time watching a movie when the boat started to shake through the anchor chain, the captain was up top having a Kip and came running down asking if we had felt that, we all looked around for a while with the captain ready to haul ass into deeper water but because we were near a mobile tower the owner got word that it was on the mainland at Padang and was no threat to us and luckily the Indo crew on board also got word that their families were safe so it was business as usual until we got back to Padang, How about you being on a land camp?

We really got shaken, I think it happened around 4.15pm. I had just come in from surfing out the front at Hide a ways and was reading a book on the first floor landing of the beach hut. It started small but got really intense. We couldnt stand as the island was moving about a meter side to side.
When we got to the island the camp had a meeting to discuss the evacuation plan so we were all ready with passports ect in water proof bags ect.
We evacuated the island in one of the boats.
Dunno if you remember that night but it was raining with about 20-30kn blowing.
MV Adiction was anchored in out bay and came over to keep an eye on us so we, the surfers had to swim to the Adiction as the Indo crew were sh!tting them selves because they cant swim.
Tbh I was crapping myself as well, I was just waiting for the wall of water to come from nowhere but it never came.
As you said we had no dammage ect so for the next 5 days we just kept surfing until we had to go back to Padang. We got airlifted out by the Airforce in a Hercules to Jakarta.
Great trip you couldnt pay for adventure like that

**** that must have been scary, we were in the owners concrete villa waiting to go to the airport when there was an after shock and we were all ready to get the hell out of there, nothing as intense as what you got.
