Just wondering what the pros and cons of a glass or epoxy surfboard would be?
The reason I ask is that Cult have a retro flashback design and they sell for $700. These are glass.
But I found the exact same shape at JP's, but I forgot who shapes them, for $550. These are epoxy.
The only difference I can tell is that the epoxy board is lighter.
Which one would be stronger and which one would be easier to repair if dinged?

Epoxy= stronger + lighter
poly= easier to repair

epoxy is pretty hard to work with compared to polyester but i think i would definatley go with the epoxy board.

I always thought that epoxy resin was heavier than polyester however the new tuff light boards (which I ride at the moment) are very light. I believe it's to do with the foam and the fact that epoxy is stronger than polyester hence the theory of tuff lights being unbreakable (which isn't true). Also they could get away with using lighter glass because of the strength of epoxy resin. I snapped the nose off my epoxy tuff light recently and repaired it myself using fibre glass and epoxy resin. The process was easy however the difference I noticed was the drying time for it go off took longer and the resin after it went hard was more difficult to sand because of the hardness. The pro was I had more time to work with the epoxy due to the longer chemical reaction time. What ever you do just don't get the cataylst in your eyes as its nasty stuff. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Personally , I have always owned good old fibreglass boards. I have ridden tufflight but I ya cant go past the flex of ur board through a heavy turn on fibreglass I reckon. Sure, maybe not as strong but still easy to fix.....

I think there are a few different factories making the epoxy boards. The price you mentioned sounds cheap, as in cheap..See if it is in the same factory as the flexlite or tufflite etc. Is it JP as in the windsurfing boards - if so should be ok.

Nar sorry Poids, I was meaning JP's at the marina. He is selling retro fish surfboards that are epoxy for $550. I think it was the Tamale? is that what they are called?

Yeah Kearnsy I was actually gonna buy the Cult.
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=4411
But for $695 I was a bit hesitant.
It is 6 foot, 21 5/8 wide and 2 1/2 thick.
Its not epoxy.
I got it because Im getting alittle slow in the paddle department and a sore back and elbow doesnt help. I dont think its a matter of making me surf better just easier. Ive heard they are very loose and can be turned just as good as a short board. Obviously I wont be using it in huge surf living in Perth huh. I think head high max. And a challange in head and half Im sure but Im not planning on big surfs with it.
Anyway Im up for some fun and this board will definately be fun
Im just glad I didnt spend 700 bucks for it
