Hey,

Im moving to Perth in January and trying to get a low down on the kite and surf spots in/near perth so I know where to base myself. Ideally looking for a place with waves so I can surf and kite everyday depending on the wind.
I know many of you may want to send me to other places to keep the local area quiet etc. I respect local laws and am a happy surfer, ill probably find a great spot after a while but hoping you can save me 6 months of being in perth. Happy to buy you a beer when I arrive if you can help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Rock on

for a standard surf in Perth the place to go is Trigg point. but their are also many other great places in a close area around perth that you can find the perfect spot for you, it's not hard.

There is no 'surf' in Perth.
Prepare to be seriously disappointed...

Dude Perth is quick and dumpy- but the chicks are hot. A couple of hours north or south will bring better waves, but the quality in girls drops something cronic.

There is noooo surf in Perth.
Your best bet would be Scarborough though.
It's not too expensive, not far from the city and you'll be able to get out for a grovel most days in Winter.

Perth is not known for surf unless you are happy with a 3ft beachy surf (reefies way too crowded and **** quality) once a fortnight during colder months. It is annoying - you check the conditions 10 times more than you get in the water unless you're happy go lucky to get wet with attitude "it beats work".
However, if you have a dinghy there are two decent waves off metro and good waves off Lancelin (1hr north of Perth). Yanchep (20min north of Perth) has couple of average waves better than Perth which are fun in winter on the weekdays when the major crowds are at work. I haven't had much luck south of Perth around Mandurah - marina developments ruined some decent breaks.
Getting down south to MR/Duns/Yalls is the way to go - having kids has stopped this for me - why I took up kiting in summer - 20kt winds happen 20 times more frequently than waves in Perth.
