Hi folks
Don't generally travel here during peak season but no choice this time round. Havnt been for ~ 6 years now, so things probably changed. Saddened to hear of badly polluted surf breaks ??? are things that bad ? Unfortunately tickets booked prior to hearing this. I have a week with the missus in Bali, then off for some uncrowded (if poss), clean (if poss), class waves solo ?
Some Qsss
Wheres a good place to stay in Bali on beach with Missus (not Kuta)
Best waves in Bali without pollution ?
Given a week solo (given time limit) - best pick ? Gland (loved it previously but long journey), Lembongen, Deserts, Lombok ? Boat trip ?
Any other tips or pointers
Good contacts?

Hangten dudes MF

july is the best time to go,rubbish may be gone by then,i think the rain in wet season washes out of the drains into the ocean.i love kuta legion but if its not your thing seminyak to the north or stay down near uluwatu, get ocean veiws so you can time the crowds and conditions, the bukit peninsula has loads of accom

Plenty of places on the Bukit to stay with the Mrs, the views from the accomodation up the top of Bingin are amazing. Few of the places have infinity pools. I reckon it's a bit cleaner in the water down there too. Lembongans great but still gets crowded. I haven't done a boat trip East in 5 years but scored some sick uncrowded waves at Scar, but had to deal with boatloads of agro Brazilians at Deserts, 'spose it all depends on where the other boats are and what the crews like. I've heard of a few crew scoring uncrowded G-land.

ha
read baliwaves
1-2 surfers in total a G-land at times recently

lembongan a zoo if swell arrives

been first out at ulu's last year, with in 20 min there were 40 out and it was absoute small swell high tide crap

what said above is true, ulu or bingin view and time your runs, impossibles usually a good bet too

the rubbish comes from java i was told. wet season it gets blown in to the west side of bali because of the west trades. dry season it goes offshore so there is much less rubbish. you shoud be pretty sweet i recon. but ive only been in the wet season so i wouldnt know conclusivley.

Anyone see the article on ABC last night about Bali?

Couldn't believe the Kuta beach scene after the wet season storms. Looked exactly like a council tip. Also development around Ulu's and Nusa Dua. I haven't bothered surfing either since around 1991. Holy sh1t it looks an about zoo and a brand new 5 star development going up right where I used to park my bike in the dirt car park at Nusa Dua near the temple.

Re: Lembongan. Spent 10 days there last July. Never got bigger than about 2-3 foot. Some sessions 45+ in the water

Haven't been to Bali in over ten years. Listening to the reports I don't think I will.

Maybee go to UBUD in the mountains mate. Spend sometime with the missus and get some waves when you get home.

Have a watch of this

iview.abc.net.au

Its not too far off the mark. If you want to get out of the rat race of Bali there are still some amazing spots to go to and good uncrowded waves to be found.

watched this - I hope the Balinese can take control and manage the mass of rubbish and ****

Has anyone stayed at Keramus/Secrets/Sanur during the dry season - I am aware it will be predominately onshore, but are the waves still OK ? Maybe surfing and kitesurfing ?

It depends on the wind - normally the offshore picks up as the days goes on - so you might be fine early in the mornings for an early but it may have some morning sickness. I have often surfed the other side during the wet season and had no dramas. As for kiting.....well if its windy you should be in heaven!! Sanur is an awesome spot with lots of reefs not too far off that fire not too mention Sanur itself which is an absolute gem if you get it working.

Just watched it, great doco its a pity that while there is BIG money to be made from greedy businessmen through tourism from very cheap hoidays to Bali. The culture, people and the island will suffer.
